[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]
Third Person POV
Kaer Morhen.
...
...
A portal opened in front of Yennefer and stepping through it, she found herself on the other side — none other than Kaer Morhen.
"So this is the School of the Wolf..." she murmured.
"Yes... Let's go." The voice beside her, none other than Triss, since Yennefer had never been here before to create the portal herself, with Triss able to bridge the way to Kaer Morhen.
"..." Without saying anything, Yennefer ended up following Triss through the gate.
"You said you've been training Ciri, and she's been learning to discover and even control the abilities she's been working on. Is the boy being trained too?" she asked.
"The boy? You call him the boy after everything he can do?" Triss raised an eyebrow. "But no, I'm not training him, he said himself it was pointless. Still... he does ask me a few things about magic, even after claiming he read the minds of about twelve sorceresses." she commented, as if that still affected her somehow.
"You're not lying, either way. Let's go see them." Yennefer said, noticing Triss's state after they had talked a bit before coming here.
They continued on without encountering anyone, since everyone was inside the castle, and they entered shortly after.
They found them as soon as they opened the door — the witchers standing around a table, except for Vesemir, while Geralt, standing beside the table, had his arms crossed, his gaze turning toward the two sorceresses who had just arrived.
Ciri, who had been watching the two witchers, Coen and Lambert, playing Gwent, turned her attention away from them and back to the women, while the last person there, Isabella, sat a little apart at the table.
"Yennefer!" Ciri exclaimed, leaving the table and running up to her.
"It's been a while, ugly." Yennefer murmured as she saw the girl approaching and hugging her, which felt strange to the sorceress.
Ciri immediately pulled away from her, pouting at what she'd heard.
"Ugly again!? Who are you calling ugly?" she murmured, displeased, since Yennefer had been calling her that since they met.
"How are you?" Yennefer ignored the protest and came closer to her, kneeling down, feeling a little strange in front of the girl, but asking genuinely concerned.
"I'm fine. I'm a lot stronger." she said, smiling.
Yennefer nodded and looked ahead as she stood up again, seeing Geralt staring at her.
She then took a step forward, approaching the witcher, and when their eyes met, an old trace of memories and thoughts stirred within the sorceress.
Triss seemed to press her lips together at the sight, keeping her own thoughts to herself as she watched them looking at each other like they were more than just familiar.
"It's been a while, Geralt. I hope everything's well after nearly two years." she murmured, staring at him as he nodded with a stoic expression.
"Yes, Yen..." he murmured.
"What's this!? What a lovely dramatic scene." Lambert stopped playing Gwent and made his comment loud and clear.
"That's Lambert. And Coen." Geralt pointed out. "The first one talks a little too much."
"A bit unusual for a witcher..." Yennefer murmured, looking at Geralt, while her gaze returned to the girl sitting in the corner of the table, her body partially disfigured.
Yennefer couldn't help but feel something upon seeing her, remembering her own past with the same issue, being treated as a freak by her own family, until her parents sold her like an animal to Tissaia for a few coins without a second thought once they saw they could get rid of her.
"You must be Isabela." Yennefer observed the girl, who held a slightly cautious gaze and had simply looked away upon feeling the sorceress's eyes studying her.
Then she turned that cautious gaze back to the new sorceress. Studying her, the girl had brown hair and blue eyes, though the latter held a deeply sad glow. Yennefer immediately understood that pain.
"Yes..." the girl murmured, making some effort despite the difficulty she had in introducing herself. But that was one of the things Triss had taught her over the past two months.
"My name is Isabela. Just Isabela." she said.
"I see, Isabela. In any case, it seems we have a conversation for later." Yennefer murmured, analyzing the castle as she looked toward the staircase and saw the older witcher approaching. That presence could only be Vesemir, who immediately recognized her.
"Another sorceress has arrived at Kaer Morhen..." Vesemir murmured, unable to remember the last time the castle had been this lively since the war decades ago.
In any case, Yennefer turned to Geralt. "Where is Madara?" she asked, not seeing him there.
"He said he was going to do something outside, and left with Totó." Ciri replied.
"That griffin...? I see." Yennefer said.
As she continued talking with them to catch up on current events at Kaer Morhen, the griffin flapped its wings rapidly through the sky, soaring at great speed and passing through many clouds. Above him, a figure stood, studying the region while his hair danced in the wind.
Winter seemed to be ending, yet the mountains below them were still covered in snow. Madara was heading north, passing through mountains he had never explored before — the northern mountains, a range full of peaks over a thousand meters tall. There were thousands of them, seemingly endless...
He had chosen to do this today, not knowing whether Yennefer would come to Kaer Morhen or not, since Triss had left three days ago. He wanted to explore part of this region before leaving it, since he would soon have to move across the continent.
Totó continued flying over the mountains and seemed quite restless. Madara understood the reason. After all, they were entering dragon territory.
There was little information about them. What he had learned in Mousesack's library in Cintra, or the bits he found in the School of the Wolf's library. All of it was very limited.
It was said that golden dragons were the most powerful, and that dragons possessed enough magic to transform into humans. They were extremely proud — so much so that they did not involve themselves in the affairs of the continent, yet they were still there, living their own society above the mountains.
This territory was dangerous, certainly for Totó, but also a very difficult path for Madara, who had to go from mountain to mountain. Despite that, he had wanted to make this journey had he left the School of the Wolf and Ciri nearly two years ago.
This was the place he wanted to explore. Either way, things happened as they were meant to, with him staying at the castle, training both himself and the girl. And now, at last, he could focus on this part of the world.
The griffin suddenly grew even more restless, and Madara quickly understood why, noticing a shadow in the sky.
"One of them has already noticed us." Madara murmured, seeing the creature flying above the clouds, its enormous wings beating the air, and its reptilian eyes certainly fixed on them.
"This is bad..." Madara murmured again, watching the creature begin to descend.
The griffin was visibly frightened.
"Calm down, Totó. I'll stop them from getting close." Madara said, watching the dragon flap its wings toward them. It was at least twenty meters long and was rapidly approaching, believing it had found a meal flying through these parts.
Madara saw the creature getting closer and closer. Quickly, he drew a ninja weapon and thrust his arm back. When the creature was about fifty meters away and already opening its mouth, he threw his kunai with explosive seals, triggering them immediately, as his intention wasn't to kill the creature.
The dragon didn't even care about the small objects coming toward it — until, just as they neared its mouth, one of the kunai exploded. The creature roared, stunned, feeling a slight burning sensation from the attack, and growled, veering off to the side.
It completely missed its attack, unable to devour the griffin in a single bite. It tried to steady itself in the air, flying past them while casting a glance at the flying beast and the man atop it who stared back with red eyes.
"This one looks angry." Madara remarked, seeing the creature begin to open its mouth again after circling around and coming back toward them. It was certainly much faster than Totó.
"Hold on." Madara said, turning around as the dragon came at them and began forming hand signs.
The dragon started generating flames in its mouth and quickly unleashed them, enraged by what had happened earlier. At the same time, Madara also began releasing flames from his mouth, spitting fire in equal measure to the dragon's.
Both streams of flame collided in midair, scattering in all directions, with neither overpowering the other. The dragon drew closer, slightly surprised, as Madara increased the force of his flames, keeping up the pressure so they wouldn't be blown back by the creature's approach.
"That human is spitting fire?" the dragon murmured while continuing to breathe flames, watching his own fire being repelled. He came closer until, suddenly, only his flames shot forward, the resistance vanishing entirely — he assumed the opponent had stopped.
And that's exactly what happened. However, the flames simply spread through the sky.
As the dragon searched for the griffin as a potential meal, it couldn't find him anywhere.
"Where did he go?" he asked, not needing to move his mouth to communicate.
"Here." a voice said.
The dragon was surprised to see someone landing between its eyes, above its enormous mouth. He was standing there, staring at him with red eyes.
"Who are you?" the dragon snorted, furious.
He was a green dragon, which indicated he wasn't among the most powerful. He wasn't as large as the biggest ones described in the books, from what Madara could tell.
"Someone who's not going to be your food." Madara said, looking at him with interest as he crossed his arms.
"Wretch!" As a very proud creature, he was deeply offended by that.
The dragon quickly threw its head upward, hoping to fling the human into the air and snap him up in one bite. However, that didn't happen.
As it shook its head violently in a diagonal motion, Madara remained fixed in place, exactly where he had been, surprising the dragon — who neither knew nor understood the concept of chakra or how Madara used it through the soles of his sandals to anchor himself there, completely unfazed by the jostling.
"How are you doing this, human?" the dragon murmured, unable to comprehend what was happening.
It quickly turned its head from side to side, but the human was still standing there.
It then twisted its body around, expecting to see him fall — but Madara remained attached.
Seeing Madara smile and look at the dragon with boredom only enraged it further.
The dragon began spinning through the air, doing barrel rolls to try and shake him off, but Madara didn't budge.
Right after that, the dragon spewed more flames, hoping to burn him, but Madara's control over the fire element was so refined that it didn't harm him.
He could use his elemental chakra as a barrier around his body to prevent his clothes from burning — after all, ninja from the world of Naruto didn't ignite their own garments when using fire-style jutsu, unless it was an extraordinarily powerful flame.
Either way, the dragon was growing more and more furious, flying in every imaginable pattern across the sky while continuing to unleash fire.
But that human wouldn't come off no matter what.
Madara seemed to be enjoying the creature's misery, while Totó was already in a safe place.
At that moment, it was just him and the dragon.
