Chapter 186 - Chapter 186 - A second attack on Kaer Morhen?

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV

Kaer Morhen.

...

...

"Will you be okay?" Triss couldn't help but ask while everyone looked at Geralt at that moment.

"Well, I'm the only one fit to go to the castle. After all, Madara made sure I wasn't seen entering the city." Geralt said.

"No, I don't agree with this!" Vesemir suddenly spoke. "You may not have been seen by some, but I'm sure some will remember you. It's better if I go."

Vesemir stepped forward while everyone looked at him. Coen couldn't be sent, as he was a prisoner of the king, and sending Geralt back to the capital was a risk. Vesemir was the best choice. After all, he was an elderly witcher with white hair. Despite the resemblance to Geralt, he would be less noticeable for not having been in the city recently.

"But..." Geralt tried to argue.

"I will go to Ard Carraigh." Vesemir said decisively. "You will stay to take care of the castle. After all, even if they want to take us, we're not simply going to abandon it."

"..." Geralt nodded reluctantly.

"I will also personally negotiate with the king. After he sent that attack against us, I will decide better how to handle our peace request." Vesemir added.

"Alright, then..." Geralt sighed, agreeing.

Before they could continue the conversation, the door simply started to open, making everyone look toward the entrance.

They thought it might be one of the knights, which would be another affront against Kaer Morhen. Expecting an attack, they quickly prepared their weapons. However, the only thing that emerged from the door was a shadow. A young man stepped through it.

"Madara!" Ciri couldn't help but exclaim, running towards him while everyone there raised their eyebrows at seeing him after entering the castle, passing through the knights.

"You came back! I thought you were in the capital!" She asked, stopping in front of him.

"I left a clone there and came here since I knew the king's men would arrive in Kaer Morhen today." Madara replied. "But it seems you've already spoken with them."

"Good thing you're here." Vesemir said. "Now we have an idea of what you did with the king."

Madara nodded, approaching the main table with Ciri.

Coen and Geralt looked at him with indecipherable expressions, while Dandelion maintained a curious yet slightly nervous gaze. However, the look that stood out most to Madara was that of the woman he hadn't seen in almost two years, since the events at Sodden Hill. She stared at him more intensely than anyone else there.

Not that he could blame her for it. His name was known across the entire continent, being the cause of headaches for every king and leader of various organizations.

But he ignored her and turned to Vesemir.

"Alright, then." He began speaking, recounting exactly what he had been doing with the king for the past ten minutes.

"You rob the king every night and beat him up?" Dandelion couldn't help but murmur, his gaze trembling with fear in his eyes.

He watched Madara as if he were facing a monster rather than a sixteen-year-old boy. Even after everything he had experienced alongside him, seeing the young man throw him over the city wall was still fresh in his memory.

"Either way, we'll need proof." Madara continued. "And for that, we'll need a ghost."

"Is it possible to capture one?" Coen murmured, looking at Vesemir.

"If it isn't, I'll have to try something else. The king needs something concrete to prove that there won't be any more trouble." Madara told them.

Vesemir observed Geralt standing beside Madara, raising an eyebrow, thoughtful.

"There's a cave nearby with some ghosts, but capturing one... is a bit complicated." Geralt murmured.

They knew it was impossible for most... But for Madara?

"I've never tested it, but I believe I have a way. After all, I managed to develop my own seals, like the signs witchers use." Madara explained. "I'll use my fuuinjutsu to trap one and place it in a separate storage."

The witcher signs were something he had also studied over the past year, even though Ciri couldn't use them due to her magic. Not even he could use them in the traditional way, but he had managed to develop them innovatively. It was a new approach to fighting ethereal spirits, as striking them directly was a complicated task.

Not that he had ever tested this... But maybe this was an opportunity.

"Alright, then. I will go with the knights to the capital." Vesemir said, expecting Madara to meet him there later.

"You will arrive in the capital much faster than you think. After all, there's a sorceress in the group, her name is Sheala de Tancarville. The king made sure to bring her, as she can open a direct portal to the city." Madara explained. "This problem needs to be resolved urgently. But don't worry, a clone will be there in case anything happens." He paused before continuing.

"You will have to be firm with the king and negotiate with him. I will only arrive in the capital tomorrow, so you need to hold him. Make sure the king doesn't sleep tonight. Though I highly doubt he would want to anyway."

"Wait... How badly did you hurt the king?" Geralt couldn't help but ask.

"Enough for him to start fearing his own sleep." Madara replied with an indifferent tone. "Either way, when I arrive in the capital tomorrow, I will release the ghost at night, right in the middle of the palace. Or better yet... In the king's bedroom. You'll just have to defeat it. So, hold your ground in the negotiations."

"Well... This is going to be strange, but I'll do it." Vesemir said at last, sighing.

"Hey, be careful with Sheala de Tancarville. She will definitely try to read your mind." Triss warned about the sorceress accompanying the group.

"Don't worry about that. I doubt any mage can read the mind of any witcher in this room." Madara stated. "After all, not even Coen submitted to that, and your friend wasn't really able to read his mind in the capital."

Triss frowned, confused.

Madara had prepared a set of protective seals that prevented even chaos users from attempting to invade their minds. He had already ensured this for all five witchers as well as Ciri because he knew that, in the world of politics, this type of invasion could happen. And with the witchers continuing their activities outside the castle, they could be captured, and their minds violated, revealing that both Madara and Ciri were still in the continent.

After all, there was already a precedent now—when Coen was captured, they had tried to read his mind in the kingdom's capital.

"Alright, then." Vesemir said, sighing. "I'll pack my things. I'll be leaving, as I doubt those damned knights will want to wait too long, especially their king."

"You'll be in the capital and back soon." Ciri suddenly remarked to Madara, who had been watching Vesemir leave before turning his attention to her.

"Not so fast." He replied. "Even if Vesemir manages to strike a deal with the king and returns to Kaer Morhen, I don't intend to come back just yet."

"What?" Ciri exclaimed, surprised.

It was difficult for her to understand, but Madara continued. "The king is preparing something in the kingdom, and I would like to stop it before it advances. So, I will stay here for maybe another month."

"But..." Ciri murmured, processing the information.

Madara shook his head.

"No. I can't interfere in this directly. That's why I'm going alone, Ciri." He explained. "I don't want this side of the continent to be taken over by the ideologies coming from the other side, with the persecution of non-humans. Even Temeria is beginning to show signs of this, isn't that right, Triss Merigold?" He turned directly to the sorceress, who was standing there.

She only nodded, aware of what he was saying. Especially since the defeat of Nilfgaard—including Francesca's name as the most influential elf fighting against the North—was one of the major causes of this new scenario. Now, elves were being persecuted all across the North, forcing them to retreat to the fallen kingdom of Cintra, where they were gathering.

But Madara didn't really know what was truly happening there.

"Either way, I will be back." Madara stated. "You now have a master in chaos. I'm sure your magical abilities will be even better."

He paused, and suddenly, Ciri flashed a mischievous smile.

"What else can I say? I'm sure you'll be surprised!" Ciri said.

"So in one month, you'll be much stronger?" Madara asked with an arrogant tone.

"Of course! You'll be surprised when you see me again." Ciri responded with a determined look.

"Great, then surprise me in a month." Madara turned to wait for Vesemir. They had about an hour before departure.

After that time, Vesemir was ready. His weapons were sharpened, he carried a handful of potions in his pouch, and his posture indicated he was prepared for any situation.

"Well, I'm off then. Wish me luck." He said. "And I'll be counting on your show in the capital... And your clone, so I don't end up burned alive by the king."

Madara nodded.

Geralt followed him to the exit while the knights waited outside. They had said they would give an answer, and now they were there.

"So, it seems the witcher has some kind of conscience." One of the knights muttered upon seeing Vesemir come out, ready to travel.

"Either way, take him to the king." The lead knight ordered.

Then, a woman approached from behind the other soldiers. Without hesitation, she dismounted from her horse and looked directly at Vesemir.

"Nice castle. I thought it wouldn't be this intact... But that doesn't matter now." The sorceress commented, not failing to acknowledge Kaer Morhen before beginning to open a portal.

"Now, come with me. King Henselt is waiting for you."

Vesemir nodded, looking at the portal with a less-than-favorable expression, but he stepped forward, crossing it along with the sorceress.

As soon as the portal closed, one of the knights turned his gaze to Geralt, the only witcher left in the castle.

"Well, they're gone... Now we have to take this witcher here." The knight suddenly said, surprising Geralt, who narrowed his eyes.

He watched as the men began drawing their swords and pointing them at him. He was outside the castle and quickly reached for the hilt of his blade.

"Seems like you can't be trusted, can you?" Geralt murmured, preparing for battle.

"Of course not! What did you think, after killing our comrades?" One of the knights growled, not believing what the witcher had said earlier about the previous group. "Now we can take you. King Henselt is not at all pleased with the death of his men here. That's why he made sure we would capture the only witcher in this place once we separated you. We will use you."

Geralt was already preparing for the fight, but what he didn't expect was for Madara to suddenly land right in front of him, shocking the knights.

The soldiers were left speechless, confused as to where he had come from, as the boy had jumped down from walls over 15 meters high.

"Well... I was expecting this." Madara responded with a smile.

The men didn't have time to react.

With the Sharingan activated, Geralt saw what could only be described as a massacre. In the next moment, Madara charged at the knights, and within a minute, all fifty of them fell, one after another. Madara advanced without hesitation, killing them easily, not leaving a single one alive.

If King Henselt wanted to send a message, then the witchers would send him one as well.
