As they stepped onto the wooden veranda of her quarters, Hwayeong turned to look at Sohwa expectantly.
Noticing Hwayeong’s curiosity, Sohwa hesitated, parting her lips slightly before pressing them together again, as if unsure how to say it.
“Well? What is it?”
“...I don’t know whether this is good or bad news.”
“So it’s both?”
“It’s great news in general, but for you, me, and Master... and for the royal family, it’s bad news.”
“Just spit it out already.”
As Hwayeong walked down the long wooden corridor toward the room, Sohwa quickly stepped ahead and opened the door for her.
Hwayeong stepped inside and headed straight to the table where her embroidery hoop was set.
As she took her seat, Sohwa moved to her side, took a deep breath, and said gravely:
“Milady, don’t be shocked. I mean... don’t get angry.”
“Why would I be angry?”
“Promise me you won’t get mad, and I’ll tell you.”
“Fine, fine, I won’t.”
Whatever it was, it couldn’t be that big of a deal.
