Chapter 343 - Campaign In The Sands VIII

(Third Person POV)

Maegor stood in front of the crumbled temple, the bodies of all the Red Cultists laid all around him as the other Duskguard Knights were finishing them off. He had a couple of bruises and a single cut on his cheek, some blood pouring down.

After the battle, the Duskguard had destroyed the temple, killing anyone who resisted and those who didn't were rounded up and tied up. No Duskguard Knight were lost during the fight as their durability far surpassed the power of the Red Cultists.

"Tch..." He spat on the ground, "So much for your Red God helping you lot.'

He was holding the severed head of the War-Priest he had killed, who he defeated with ease. The lifeless eyes stared into nothing and for some reason, it bothered Maegor greatly.

"Maegor." a Knight said, "What should we do now?"

He looked to the side, seeing that a Priest was on his knees, an old man with white hair, clutching his shoulder. The man had surrendered in order to protect the innocent worshippers who did not want to die.

Maegor pointed at him, "Cut off his hand." He said, "Send each of his fingers all over Dorne, I don't care how it is done. I want every single Red Temple in this wretched land to see what happens when you worship the wrong god!!"

The Priest looked at him with fear in his eyes, "W-What?!"

Maegor tossed the head to the side and walked over to him, "You made the mistake of worshipping a stupid God of Light." He said, "The only god that matters is the Dragon God that brought back the terror that is my name."

The Priest looked at him, "Did...the Knight call you.....Maegor....?" He asked, "It is you.....the Cruel.....The Cruel Tyrant.....the madman who took the throne..."

Maegor nodded, "That is right, Old Man." he said, "It is I, Maegor I Targaryen. I have been brought back by the power of Drakken, the God of War and Death. And I lead his forces in the name of war. In the name of destruction, in the name of dominance!! I shall strike terror in the hearts of those who worship other gods!!!"

As he said this, the ground began to tremble violently, prompting the Knights to look up in alarm.

"Maegor, it is happening." one said, "The Desert God is passing by."

Maegor scowled, "I figured it would stay in the mountains." He said, "Why is it passing through here?!"

A hundred meters away, they could see the ground cracking, sand and dirt flying into the air as a massive dust cloud formed as something was burrowing in the ground underneath. Maegor felt the tremors all the way where he stood, his bones vibrating.

There was something that told him not to move. If he moved, he would collapse into the ground. Everything around him seemed like it was unstable, he did not want to risk taking a step. He simply looked into the distance, seeing the massive dust cloud.

"What is that?" the Priest said

Maegor looked at him, "The new god of the land." He said, "The Stormlands has one. Seems that Dorne will have its own. Forget the Lord of Light!! You will worship this Desert God and the God of War and Death. Do that or you will meet an unfortunate end!!"

"You are but a fool!" the priest shouted, "You cannot go against the Lord's guidance!! He-"

Maegor reached down for his hand, pulling him up and held his arm with both hands, "Do it."

Without wasting a moment, a Knight pulled his sword out and cut his hand off, blood flying everywhere as a woman shrieked in terror.

"Arghhh!!!" the old man cried out in pain

Maegor then kicked him to the ground, "Tend to his wound." He told the other worshippers as he held the severed hand in his left hand, "Or he would die. If he bleeds out, it won't count as murder, will it? Huh?"

He was asking the last part to the Knight that cut off the hand.

"I wouldn't think so." he said

"Good." Maegor tossed the hand to him, "Do as I said."

"As you wish." The knight said,

"I'll have it done."

[Harrenhal]

"Jon has mobilized." Mya told Drakken, who stood in the courtyard, looking at something, "Dara is here. I believe you have not met their son, Jason."

Drakken didn't react to that, "Hm." I said, "What does it matter to me?"

"He is your nephew....." She said with a slight smile, "Seeing that Daranne is your wife."

Drakken shrugged, "I am not interested." He said, "Leave me be."

Mya sighed, "Is it because of Dara?" She asked, "Do you not want to see her face? Because it is Daranne's face?"

"Whose dog is that?" Drakken asked as he gestured in front of them

Mya frowned, "What?"

She looked over to see a dog that was biting on a piece of rope, pulling on it aggressively. It didn't budge, as it was tied to a post for whatever reason. The dog was growling and pulling on it, a mischievous act of it. It had short hair and was grey in color, with a couple of white patches around.

"I...." Mya said, "I don't recognize it. It does not seem like the Hounds that we have, it is not bound by a leash.....perhaps it is House Riversbane's?"

Drakken walked over to the dog, "Hm." He said, "You."

The dog stopped pulling on the rope and let go, looking up at him as it panted with its tongue out.

"Sit." Drakken said as he pointed at him

The dog sat down and stared at him with a curious and joyous attitude.

"Hm." Drakken crouched down, patting it on the head, "You are well trained. You follow orders. As you should."

The dog began to lick his hand and Drakken simply petted him, all while Mya looked at this with a surprised look on her face.

"In all my years...." She said softly, "I have never seen you be this affectionate to dogs.....we have dozens of hounds....but...."

"This one in particular...." Drakken said as he straightened up, "Reminds me of an old friend.....from a long time ago...."

"Oh." Mya blinked, "Your time in Infernis?"

"My first years." Drakken said seriously, "It is not something I wish to speak about. You say that Jon has mobilized? Good, I want Dorne to be dominated strategically. I want the people to worship the Trinity and I want their armies to serve in my Duskguard. This is a legitimate conquest, nothing like I did back with Ammaria."

He turned around and walked past her, leaving Mya to simply look at the dog.

"My Lord." She said softly and looked at him, "Wait."

Drakken stopped and glanced at her, "What is it?"

"M-May I ask? May I overstep? Will you grant me this wish? Just once....." Mya asked, "What....what was significant about a dog of that color?"

Drakken stared at her for a couple of seconds, nearly no emotion in his eyes, "May I ask you something first, My Vixen?"

"Yes...." Mya said

"Where were you born?" He asked, "And in what condition were you raised in?"

"I was born....in Raventree Hall...well, on the servants' huts just outside it." She said softly, "And you know how I was raised, I was treated as I was; a bastard....but..."

"It was somewhat better than a commoner, was it?" Drakken asked her

"Yes...." Mya said, "You could say that."

"Well...." Drakken said, "That is one thing we don't have in common. I was born amidst the mud and blood...the blood of my mother.....and I knew nothing but anger...."

"And the dog?" Mya asked

"The dog.....well....dogs...." Drakken said as he turned around, "You could say they were my family...that is all...."

"I will speak no longer about this."
