Chapter 401 - Chapter 402: Came Back Alive

Having successfully retrieved the signal lure device, Scott was now sitting on the couch with his head lowered, allowing the furious Hank Pym to unleash a torrent of scolding on him.

"Scott, do you have any idea how dangerous your actions were just now? You were being completely irresponsible with your own safety!"

Dr. Hank Pym was so angry that even the beard on his cheeks trembled with rage. He paced back and forth in the room, unable to calm down.

Alan remained silent—he knew all Hank needed right now was to vent his anger.

After all, Hank was a rather rigid person by nature. The moment he saw Scott acting outside the plan, getting mad was inevitable.

Gwen and Wanda, of course, said nothing either. But seeing what Scott did earlier, both of them felt a rush of excitement—they hadn't expected Scott to improvise like that.

Hope crossed her arms and spoke softly but firmly, enunciating every word:

"Father, at least Scott brought back the original signal lure device. All in all... he completed the mission."

No one knew Hank Pym's temper better than she did. He just needed a way to step down from his fury. Scott wasn't in a position to say it, and Alan was even less suited to intervene.

"Fine... let's say you did well enough!" Hank Pym finally softened his tone, his gaze falling on the signal lure device.

Just as Alan had said—Scott was someone who could think on his feet. If this kind of mission were entrusted to him, maybe things really wouldn't go wrong.

"Hey, did the doctor just praise me?" Scott's lips curled into a grin as he turned to look at Alan, then at Hope.

"You could take it that way," Alan replied with a faint smile. It was clear Scott hadn't taken Hank's earlier scolding to heart.

"How come no one's praising me for fighting an Avenger and still coming back alive with all limbs intact?"

"Don't push your luck. You could've avoided that fight altogether," Hope shot Scott a warning glare. Hank clearly wasn't angry anymore, and now Scott had the nerve to ask for compliments.

"Hope's right. Scott, if the person you ran into wasn't just a single Avenger, you'd probably be in a hospital—or already in custody."

Wanda spoke softly. Though in truth, with Alan around, she knew Scott would never have been caught.

"All right, it's getting late. Head home and get some rest. Come back tomorrow—we still have to discuss the rest of the plan in detail. I hope you…"

Hank Pym gave Scott a meaningful look.

"...won't pull another stunt like today. That kind of improvisation could get you killed."

Scott swallowed and nodded quickly,

"I... I understand. Next time I'll stick to the plan. I absolutely won't act on my own again."

After watching Scott leave, Hank Pym slumped onto the couch, clearly exhausted.

"Alan… about the Avengers… did Scott pass their test?"

He guessed right away that this had all been Alan's plan. If the other side had been alert, Scott would never have gotten the device so easily.

"You knew from the start that Stark's old factory... had been turned into the Avengers' base?"

Alan locked eyes with Hank Pym, and for a moment, he couldn't help but feel a bit of admiration.

No wonder this man, a seasoned and sharp-minded doctor, had lived this long—he'd hit the nail on the head instantly.

Alan nodded slightly. He didn't think it was necessary to hide it.

"That's right. I knew. And Scott might just pass their rookie evaluation. Dr. Hank, would you like to meet Stark in person?"
