Chapter 396 - Chapter 397: Constantly Getting Shut Down

Sam looked around in confusion. He had clearly heard the intrusion alarm, yet when he arrived on the rooftop, there was no one in sight—not even a shadow.

His visor immediately began scanning the entire area. Someone had definitely broken in; after all, the security system of the base was personally designed by Tony Stark.

Sam refused to believe there was an issue with the defense system. Even a signal jammer wouldn't have interfered with the base's security protocols.

Hank Pym quickly noticed Sam's gaze locking onto Scott and immediately grew anxious. "Scott, did you hear that? Get out of there, now!"

But Scott was determined to retrieve the signal device—there was no way he was leaving empty-handed.

"Relax, Dr. Pym. I refuse to believe that he can still see me in this state," Scott said confidently.

"Hey, buddy, I can see you," Sam responded flatly.

His visor had been upgraded by Tony, making it incredibly precise when it came to tracking human signatures.

Scott was doomed.

One second ago, Gwen had shut him down. Now, Falcon had done the same. He couldn't believe Sam had actually spotted him.

"Oh, come on…" Scott sighed in defeat.

In an instant, he enlarged himself in front of Sam, wondering if Alan had ever mentioned him to the Avengers.

If Alan had brought him up, then maybe he could just walk into the warehouse and take the signal device without any issue.

"Hey, Falcon, uh… You've heard of me, right? Ant-Man, aka Scott Lang!" Scott removed his helmet, opting for honesty.

Maybe if he played it cool and made an introduction, he and Sam could become good buddies in the future.

"Is Scott out of his mind?!" Hope gasped, covering her face in disbelief.

She couldn't believe that Scott had just revealed his face—right in front of an enemy.

Not only that, but he was even introducing himself like he was making friends!

Hope turned to glare at Alan. "Didn't you say Scott was good at improvising? This doesn't look like improvisation—it looks like he's walking straight into a trap!"

But Alan remained completely unfazed. In fact, he had already predicted Scott's actions.

"Oh my God… Is he seriously trying to befriend the guy?" Gwen's expression mirrored Hope's. "Does this mean the mission is a total failure?"

"I've never heard of you," Sam replied indifferently, his sharp eyes studying Scott with clear suspicion.

"Who are you, and what exactly are you doing breaking into the Avengers' base?"

Scott decided to be straightforward. "I just came to the base warehouse to borrow some high-tech equipment. Trust me, I only need it for a few days. Once I'm done, I'll personally return it!"

"I swear I won't keep it. That device is really important—it's, uh… vital for saving the world! Just like how the Avengers protect the world!"

Sam raised an eyebrow, his frown deepening as he scrutinized Scott's words. "I see. Well, after I take you into custody, we can take our time discussing how exactly you plan to 'save the world' with stolen tech."

With that, Sam pressed a button on his communicator and started marching toward Scott.

He had no idea what this bizarre intruder was up to, but as far as he was concerned, anyone who entered the base uninvited—especially in such a suspicious manner—was an enemy.

The best course of action? Arrest him and hand him over to the authorities.

"Damn, I guess our little chat didn't go well. Sorry, Falcon, but I can't let you catch me and throw me back in jail."

Scott had no intention of going back behind bars—he'd had more than enough of that life.
