Chapter 310 - The Clash of Legends

(A/N: Bonus chapter!Hope you enjoy it!)

John chose "Yes" without hesitation.

Back in the game, he found himself perched on the back of his Totem Salamence, hovering in the skies above Sootopolis Island. The weather continued its bizarre cycle, a minute of scorching Sunny Day followed by a minute of torrential downpour.

John quickly released Gardevoir, who used Psychic to create a protective barrier against both the blistering heat and the pelting rain.

Directly below them, just off the shores of Sootopolis Island, an incredible sight unfolded.

Groudon trudged across the sea, each massive step carving a path of sizzling magma through the waters. Atop its head stood Maxie, his body now etched with glowing red lines, his eyes burning with the same crimson light.

Facing them was Kyogre, suspended in mid-air amidst swirling torrents of water. Archie stood on Kyogre's head, his body marked with pulsing blue lines that matched his now-azure eyes.

Two ancient Pokemon were about to engage in world-shattering combat, supposedly under the control of the two organization leaders, though John knew better.

"It's not that they're controlling these Pokemon," he muttered, watching the scene unfold. "Those ancients are controlling them."

After all, how could human willpower possibly match that of two super-ancient Pokemon? Human greed and the misguided desire to control such power had only fueled Groudon and Kyogre's rage.

Now, that fury was about to be unleashed!

"Kyogre!!" Kyogre bellowed, the sound reverberating through John's chest.

The sea responded violently, pulling up a monstrous wave nearly a hundred meters high. Facing Kyogre's casual display of power was like watching ten skyscrapers collapsing toward you simultaneously. There was no escaping such a force, you could only await your fate.

Fortunately, this colossal wave wasn't aimed at any humans or at Sootopolis Island. Instead, the churning waters rushed toward Groudon, threatening to drag the continent Pokemon back into the depths.

"Groudon!!" Groudon countered with a deafening cry as blazing white light erupted from its mouth.

The brilliance was blinding, for an instant, the world seemed to plunge into darkness by comparison.

"Hyper Beam!" John recognized the devastating attack.

The destructive ray struck the giant wave at its core, and with a slight turn of Groudon's head, the beam cleaved the entire wall of water in two. The massive wave collapsed instantly!

Groudon immediately followed up, unleashing another scorching white beam toward Kyogre. If John wasn't mistaken, this was Solar Beam.

"Smart," John observed. "Groudon understands type advantages. It knows fire moves won't hurt Kyogre much, so it's using grass-type attacks instead."

Kyogre was just as formidable. It flapped its enormous pectoral fins like wings, generating two massive Twisters that pierced the sky. These vortices gathered water as they spun forward, forming a massive waterspout that intercepted the Solar Beam!

The raw power on display was staggering. John realized that not even Greninja using its Z-move Hydro Vortex ten times simultaneously could produce an effect this powerful.

"Legendary Pokemon are on another level entirely," John whispered in awe, silently reaching into his pocket for the Master Ball.

He set his sights on Kyogre. Between the two legendaries, he preferred the water deity and not just because Groudon couldn't fly!

"I choose you!" John declared, hurling the Master Ball toward Kyogre.

In that moment, something unexpected happened. As the ball left his hand, both Groudon and Kyogre looked up, locking their gazes on him. Eerie smiles spread across their ancient faces.

Two Hyper Beams suddenly blazed toward him through the sky!

The Totem Storm Salamander had no time to dodge. John couldn't even track where his Master Ball had gone before white light flooded his vision.

When his sight cleared, John found himself sitting on the couch in his room. On his handheld, his character stood in the Pokemon Center of Lavaridge Town. A message displayed:

[Your Pokemon have fainted. You've been returned to the last Pokemon Center you visited.]

"How could they both attack me at the same time?" John wondered, puzzled. He checked his inventory—the Master Ball was still there, unused.

He decided to try again.

Summoning his Storm Salamander, he selected Fly and set Sootopolis City as his destination. The prompt appeared:

[Do you want to enter story mode?]

John chose "Yes" and found himself once more in the skies above Sootopolis Island.

Groudon and Kyogre were still locked in battle. This time, John didn't immediately reach for the Master Ball. Instead, he circled the battling titans on his Totem Storm Salamander.

The legendary Pokemon paid him no attention, in their eyes, both John and his Pokemon were mere ants, not worth acknowledging.

John carefully observed the ancient Pokemon while quietly reaching into his backpack for the Master Ball.

Instantly, both legendaries fixed their gaze on him.

"Gotcha!"

John immediately understood, the Master Ball was the trigger! They weren't watching him; they were watching the ball!

Two more Hyper Beams followed, and John found himself back in Lavaridge Town.

"So the game doesn't want me capturing a legendary this early," John realized with a sigh. From a game design perspective, it made sense. He hadn't even challenged the Elite Four or become Champion yet—what would be the point of giving him the rarest Pokemon so soon?

But John wasn't one to give up easily. He decided to try one last strategy.

Using Fly once more, he returned to Sootopolis City and entered story mode. This time, he maintained a distance of three kilometers from the battling legends before releasing Gardevoir.

"Gardevoir, MEGA evolution!"

Gardevoir transformed, appearing in her elegant black wedding dress form.

"Gardevoir, Teleport the Master Ball to Kyogre's head!" John instructed, pulling out the Master Ball with lightning speed.

Mega Gardevoir immediately teleported the special Pokeball, three kilometers was now the limit of her Teleport range.

But John received no notification about capturing Kyogre.

Instead, he saw a massive flaming magma blade with a reach of three kilometers slashing toward him through the sky. Simultaneously, countless azure and white energy blasts, like three thousand missiles, launched in his direction.

John didn't try to escape. There was nowhere to run. He simply waited for the inevitable, unable to suppress a wry smile.

"Being able to die under the combined assault of Precipice Blades and Origin Pulse... I must be the luckiest trainer in the world!"
