Maya's heart buzzed in her ears as she watched Dalton storm off. She abruptly got to her feet to chase after him, but she halted. What could she say to vindicate herself? How was she going to explain how she ended up entangled in bed with Dan when her mind refused to provide any evidence of it?
"You better start packing your things and get out of my son's life. He is clearly done with your promiscuous, lying, cheating ass," Beatrice threw at Maya's face. However, Maya was in a haze of distress, and none of Beatrice's words had the impact she intended.
"Maya, stay put," Aiden said, touching her arm. Maya perked up her head to look at him. She couldn't recall when or how he had come to stand by her side.
"Are you really going to let this slide, too?" Beatrice shouted, her voice rising in hysteria. "Is she going to get away with this just like she got away with the attempted murder of your brother?"
