Heavenly Moon lowered her head, her spirits completely defeated.
He was right.
Completely, utterly and devastatingly right.
There were no grand justifications. No righteous goals. No divine cause behind his power. Just the honest, simple reality that he could—and that was reason enough.
She had tried to take the moral high ground. Tried to justify her choices under the facade of motherhood. She tried to protect her daughter by offering others like cattle, thinking that made her noble.
But now, standing before this man—this being who didn't hide behind excuses—she realized that they were not so different after all.
However, despite everything, something unexpected happened inside her.
She calmed, unnaturally.
The suffocating weight of shame, fear, and pride that had been pressing down on her… began to fade.
Not completely.
But enough.
Enough to breathe again.
