Chris's words caused many people to roll their eyes.
I'm here to buy a Ralts that chooses me, but I still refuse? That would be crazy! they thought.
Chris ignored everyone's blank stares, and after a while, they understood what was happening.
He gestured for the first Ralts to come forward.
"La Lu~" The first Ralts walked forward shyly with red cheeks as a white screen slowly descended behind it.
Under everyone's puzzled gaze, the information about this Ralts appeared on the screen.
[Ralts (Psychic, Fairy)]
[Gender: ♀]
[Ability: Synchronize (When other Pokémon inflict burns, poison, toxic, or paralysis on this Pokémon, they will receive the same Status Condition in return.)]
[Individual Values: HP (13), Attack (21), Special Attack (31), Defense (27), Special Defense (10), Speed (18)]
[Moves: Disarming Voice, Growl, Double Team, Confusion]
Everyone stared at the screen one by one, then began discussing among themselves.
"We all know about gender, ability, and moves, but what do these values mean?" someone asked.
"Individual Values are my evaluation of this Pokémon's talent corresponding to each stat within its group!" Chris explained. "The highest is 31, which I call V, and the lowest is 0."
"Taking this Ralts as an example, it only has a Special Attack value of 31, which is 1V. So under the same conditions and identical training, its Special Attack will be the strongest in the group!"
There was no concept of Individual Values in this world, but that didn't stop Chris from introducing it. Since no one could detect Individual Values, this would become an exclusive concept of Chris's Breeding House!
"Master Chris, I have a question," a young man in the crowd suddenly spoke up.
"Go ahead," Chris replied.
"I'd like to ask, how do you know that this Ralts has the highest Special Attack talent in the group?"
"Is there a way to detect it? Or have you built a database of Ralts?"
Judging by the youth's question, he might also be a Pokémon researcher.
Chris smiled and spread his hands. "I have no way to detect it, and I haven't established a Ralts database."
"I think, given the rarity of Ralts, I'm afraid that without decades of time and millions of Pokédollars as support, it would be impossible for someone to establish a Ralts database. This is just my experience as a trainer who spent half a year raising a Ralts into a Gardevoir with Gym Trainer-level strength!"
It was impossible for Chris to reveal the secret of his Pokédex, so he couldn't prove the accuracy of the Individual Values. Therefore, he simply confessed.
Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. They had originally thought Chris would present laboratory data. After all, Chris was a disciple of Principal Vladimir and a member of Theodore's laboratory.
However, the fact that Chris had trained a Ralts into a Gym Trainer-level Gardevoir in only half a year was truly convincing.
"Believe it or not, I've shared all I know about this Ralts. If you want to raise it as a Gallade or evolve it in Redwood, that's your choice—as long as you won't regret it."
Everyone quickly shook their heads. They came here for Gardevoir; why would they train it to be a Gallade? Moreover, the Individual Values given by Chris seemed suitable for raising it as a Gardevoir.
"Alright, now let Ralts choose the trainer it likes," Chris said, looking at Ralts.
Encouraged by Chris, Ralts began to walk forward, choosing its future trainer from among the trainers in the first five rows.
The trainers in these rows all stared at Ralts, waving to signal it to choose them. Some even took out Berries to try to captivate the Pokémon.
However, Ralts wasn't influenced by such attempts at all. It walked straight past them and finally stopped in front of a girl with short hair and chubby cheeks.
"La Lu~" Ralts lifted itself up using Confusion and stretched out its hand toward the girl.
The girl stared at Ralts in a daze, as if she hadn't expected Ralts to choose her at all, and momentarily forgot to reach out.
"Young lady, Ralts has chosen you as its lifelong Trainer. Would you like to accept it?" Chris asked the girl with a smile. He trusted Ralts's choice. As a Pokémon that could sense others' feelings, it made better choices than anyone else.
Although Chris ran a breeding house, he wanted to move beyond simply selling Pokémon. He wanted to help Pokémon find Trainers that suited them and that they liked!
Only then did the girl snap back to reality. She noticed everyone around her looking at her with envy and surprise, which made her cheeks turn even redder.
It was clear that the girl was somewhat shy, but she still mustered the courage to reach out and hold Ralts's hand, answering Chris in a low voice. "I do!"
"Great! You can take Ralts and go with your parents to the side to complete the payment," Chris indicated. "Additionally, all Trainers who obtain a Ralts today will also receive my written guide on raising Gardevoir, as well as the most suitable Pokémon food I've made specifically for Ralts."
The Pokémon food that Chris gave away was Pokéblocks—not many, just one box. It was the most common type, specially used for promotion.
He believed these Ralts would never want to eat those unpalatable and rough Pokémon foods again after tasting Pokéblocks.
The girl stood up timidly, took Ralts by the hand, and ran directly to Denver.
"Is that your niece?" Chris asked in surprise.
Denver shrugged and spread his hands with a look that said "I can't help it," but the corners of his slightly raised mouth were full of smugness. He had understood what Chris meant by what he had said yesterday, but his niece had been very determined.
"It's hard to imagine that a thick-skinned person like you would have such a shy niece," Chris teased.
"Get out!" Denver glared at Chris, then took Stephanie to complete the payment.
Everyone watched Denver and the girl leaving with envy on their faces, but they didn't suspect any foul play.
As the sole owner of the breeding house, if Chris had wanted to sell Ralts to Denver, he wouldn't have needed to go through this troublesome process at all—he could have just sold them to him directly.
"Okay, let's see the second Ralts!" Chris announced.
The second Ralts walked forward, and its information appeared on the screen.
