Ever so slowly, the world around me seemed to have picked up the pace. Adam's arms trembled around me, his blood soaking into the fabric of my dress as he dropped to his knees. The bullet had gone clean through his body, and I could feel the heat of it as it buried into my left shoulder.
Eve had a really crappy shot for a woman as old as she was. Even without Adam jumping in to save the day, she wouldn't have been able to kill me.
As Adam went to the ground, he refused to let go of me. Dragging me to the floor with him, he stared into my eyes. "I won't let you die in front of me," he rasped again, coughing up a mouthful of blood. "I won't ever let you go."
See, if one of the guys had said that, I would think it was the most romantic thing I had ever heard. TO hear Adam saying it? I wanted to scrub my body with acid.
