When Henry heard the news that Sophia was pregnant, he felt like the floor had vanished beneath him.
Sophia. Pregnant.
With Ethan's child.
He stood in the center of the living room, his fists clenched at his sides, eyes narrowed into a hard glare that pierced the silence. He didn't shout, not yet. But his silence was louder than rage.
"I've always known," he muttered, almost like a curse. "I've always known that girl will be the end of us one day."
He turned abruptly, heading toward the door like he needed space to breathe before the storm inside him tore through everything. Haisley tried to stop him, reaching gently for his arm, but he shook her off… not violently, but firmly.
"Haisley," he said, voice strained, "I tried. God knows I tried to protect both girls. But that one…" he pointed vaguely in the direction of Sophia's room. "...that one doesn't think. She's just like her mother."
With that, he was gone.
