I was still in a meeting when the notification flashed across my phone screen. A sharp ding echoed in the room, and suddenly, every eye in the boardroom turned to me.
My phone was supposed to be on silent. It always was during meetings… but today, I didn't silence it. I couldn't.
Not when Isabella hadn't answered my last three messages. Not when something in my gut had been screaming all day since she didn't call me back when I had reached out to her the moment I got to the office.
The chairman narrowed his eyes on me. "Don't you think you are distracting the meeting,"
I swallowed hard and gave a stiff shake of my head. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt." My voice came out lower than I meant it to.
Then I looked at my screen.
One message.
One message from Isabella.
And when I opened it… my breath hitched.
I couldn't breathe. I couldn't move. My heart dropped like a stone.
The message was short. A plate number. A location pin. No explanation.
