Jonathan was momentarily taken aback by the sight of Aurora but swiftly regained his composure.
Lady Amelia appeared calm, though the surprise in her eyes betrayed her inner thoughts upon finding Aurora standing in the middle of the drawing room.
"What is the meaning of this? Lady Amelia? How do you know him?" Aurora asked, one brow arched. Jonathan exhaled deeply and turned to Amelia.
"He is my husband," she replied, and Aurora's eyes widened in disbelief as her mind struggled to grasp what she had just heard.
She turned to Jonathan, who gave a solemn nod in confirmation.
"And the child? Whose is it?"
"My husband's, of course," she answered with a faint, almost triumphant smile, lifting her gaze to Jonathan, who returned it with one of his own.
"Where is Adrian?"
"I do not know where he went. He simply stepped out and said he would return shortly," she lied, silently hoping that whatever was about to unfold, Adrian would somehow hear it too.
