The group passed books around, but none of them could understand any of it. One was a romance novel, but the opening scene's description left everyone dizzy. They stumbled through two pages, recognizing few words, and guessed it might be describing the wall decorations.
Someone else got a political book, but the long words and sentences inside quickly defeated them.

"Does not understanding a few words mean we've eaten too little?"
"Exactly, it just means we've eaten too little, nothing else." Ye Nai, having finished her tasks, stopped and nodded.
"What level is your current proficiency at?"
"Around the level of daily notes and children's storybooks. The vocabulary accumulated is enough for everyday conversations with people. Beyond that, there are popular novels, but I don't read them. I'm determined not to. They all like to pile on fancy words, and I don't have the patience to finish a single page."
