Chapter 304 - Chapter 304: Will: He’s a Traitor

After breakfast, Wade set off immediately.

As the peregrine falcon soared across the sky, he looked down and saw Fred and Fiona at the window, who were watching him leave. The couple stood close together, with Fiona waving her hand enthusiastically.

Every time she saw Wade transform into a peregrine falcon, she became incredibly excited.

In the house next door, Moody stood on his own balcony.

When Wade looked over, Moody was drinking with his head lowered, but the blue magical eye seemed to still be tracking his movements. Wade could feel that sensation of being watched.

...

The early morning in Diagon Alley was still very quiet, with only a few shops beginning to open. However, inside the Aslan Magic Workshop, more than a dozen customers had already gathered.

"Give me a hundred Streaming Mirrors! A hundred, right now!"

"I want a hundred and fifty! I'm buying more, sell to me first!"

"I represent the Brazilian Ministry of Magic, sir. Please observe proper decorum!"

"So what? I'm here on behalf of the Russian Ministry of Magic!"

The two began tussling in front of the counter, but the workshop staff skillfully separated them.

"Please don't worry, gentlemen. We have ample stock to meet both your demands…"

Business was already booming early in the morning. After moving several boxes of goods, Will couldn't help but yawn and nearly dropped the Streaming Mirrors he was about to place on the shelves.

"Go take a break!"

A colleague patted him on the shoulder, kindly suggesting:

"The real rush hasn't even started yet! Go grab a nap while you can. Didn't you sleep well last night?"

"Not at all." Will rubbed his eyes and said, "Thanks, mate. I'll cover for you later."

Although he knew some basic magic, Will hadn't mastered advanced techniques like Apparition and didn't have enough money to buy a car.

So, last night, Will had to run a long way on foot to hail a taxi back to his temporary rental. Early in the morning, he was back at work.

Now he was both exhausted and drowsy. His legs felt like jelly as he walked to the rest area beside the warehouse. Collapsing onto the bed, Will fell asleep instantly.

This time, he slept for a long time.

When Will finally woke up, he felt as though an eternity had passed. He was puzzled why his colleagues hadn't woken him.

He then realized he was not lying on the small bed in the workshop's rest area but sitting in a chair, with his hands and feet bound by iron chains.

A black cloth was wrapped over his eyes, obscuring his surroundings. All he could faintly sense was the fragrance of flowers and grass.

Will struggled with all his strength, causing the chains to clatter, but they showed no sign of loosening.

Soft footsteps approached; someone had come to his side.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

Will demanded twice but received no response.

Then he felt his body stiffen as though petrified, and he was unable to move. Cold droplets of liquid entered his mouth.

—What is this? What are they making me drink?

Will, aware of the terrifying effects of potions, was overwhelmed with fear. He desperately tried to resist swallowing, but it was futile.

Soon, his consciousness became hazy, and he started to forget even who he was.

Wade put away the crystal vial and observed the man. Under the influence of Veritaserum, his entire body relaxed and his head drooped weakly like a lamb awaiting slaughter.

"Tell me your name," Wade said.

After a moment, the man replied, "Will Flint."

Wade nodded slightly, confirming the Veritaserum's effectiveness.

—The name Will had registered at the magic workshop was Will Vrohn. But Wade could see that his real surname was Flint.

The Flints, said to be among the 28 pure-blood families, had, like the Black family, disowned any members who "tainted the family bloodline."

The Weasley family wasn't much different—they also had Muggle relatives, though they never spoke of them, let alone maintained contact.

Wade set his thoughts aside and asked in a gentle tone:

"Will Flint, you and your associates attempted to kidnap a group of alchemists last night. Who ordered you to do this? Where were the kidnapped people supposed to be taken?"

Will's eyelids trembled for a moment before he replied: "The kidnapping… was a task given to us by Dahl. I don't know where they were supposed to be taken. I… I'm not privy to that information."

Wade knew Kurt Dahl was the thick-browed man from last night.

It seems his control over his subordinates isn't very strong—Wade almost felt sorry for him.

"What about Jennie Padilla, who was monitoring you? Why isn't she here?" Wade asked.

"She separated from me after the ship left port," Will answered honestly. "She has her own job and had to work today."

"Where does she work?"

"In London… at a Muggle company… I don't know exactly where…"

"You don't know this, you don't know that. Your life is really a mess, isn't it?"

Wade sighed. "You don't know any secrets, yet you dare to run with this crowd? Hmm? Tell me how you got involved with these people."

"Claire was sick. I couldn't find a job, had no money, so I resorted to stealing… When I was beaten half to death, he saved me."

Will recounted, "He said, we are all people rejected by the world… werewolves, vampires, criminals, liars, lunatics…"

"We all have the right to live, but this world doesn't allow us to survive… But we must not give up on ourselves…"

"We need to build our own community, protect each other like brothers and sisters; have our own land where we can live freely as we are; ensure our children can go to school without being discriminated against by anyone…"

"I believed him, so I joined… Whatever he asked us to do, we did…"

Wade was silent for a long time before asking a few more questions, realizing that Will knew very little.

He was just an insignificant pawn, clueless about any important information, blindly following others in the hope of building their imagined utopia.

Will's involvement in this operation was only because he had been hired as an employee at Aslan Magic Workshop, which temporarily elevated his "importance."

Although he was just doing heavy labor, he was quite content with his role. Even under the influence of Veritaserum, he occasionally regurgitated brainwashing slogans fed to him by others.

It sounded as if they were idealistic warriors, but Wade remained fixated on one statement.

"You mentioned earlier—you think Remus Lupin, who helped you, is a hypocritical and disgusting philanthropist. Do you truly believe that?"

"Of course," Will said bitterly.

"What gives him the right to go to school? What gives him the right not to be abandoned by his parents? What gives him the right to wear nice clothes and drink coffee, while I have to haul cargo in a stinking warehouse?"

"He's a traitor to werewolves! One day… one day… I'll tear out his throat and watch him struggle and die in agony…"
