Dylan stepped directly into Olivia's path, planting himself in front of the door, blocking her way out. His back pressed against the door, locking them in.
"Really, Dylan?" she sighed, crossing her arms.
His eyes burned with longing. "Don't you miss me? I know you do, Olivia. That's why you're here, right?"
She laughed, a sound with no joy backing it. "Are you even listening to yourself? It's my father's retirement party, Dylan. Of course I'm here. You should be asking yourself why you're here."
"For starters, I missed you. I wanted to see you. And I'm still your father's business partner."
She tilted her head. A short smile. "Well, that will change very soon. My father is retiring tonight." She let the grin soften into something gentle and confident. "And between you and me… I'm taking over. I don't want to brag, but I think I'll handle the business just fine."
"You seem to be enjoying yourself more than I expected," he murmured, almost bitter.
