We had taken shelter in a narrow back alley, just a block away from the administration building, now engulfed in flames. Onlookers had already started to gather, along with medics, firefighters, and the first squads of the city guard.
– Are you sure?.. – Mary asked uncertainly, pressed tightly against the wall.
– The mayor's office is their priority right now. As long as all attention stays on that fire, we're safe.
Had it not been for the fire, the risk of being spotted would've been significantly higher. But now, with mana signatures dissolving into the chaos of panic and smoke, the odds of detection were near zero. I turned my gaze once more to the blazing building—at this distance, even with enhanced vision, it was hard to see anything clearly through the flickering glow and swirling smoke.
