Queen's expression darkened. "I want to kill them."
Kaido nodded. "I feel the same."
He had been holding it in the entire time.
Roberta and Jem had no idea they were already standing on the brink of death, spared only by the restraint of Queen and King. Though the immediate tension had eased, the atmosphere was still charged.
"Haha, Roberta, I can tell you want to ditch me and leave on your own!" Jem teased.
"Jem, what are you talking about? Have you forgotten that I was the first person to find you after learning about the treasure on Yerug Island? I wanted to search for it with you!"
"Heh, and then when things got tough, you planned to leave me behind and run?"
"I told you, it's not what you think!"
"Then what is it, huh?!"
Jem seemed unable to hold back any longer and sneered, "Those people outside haven't left yet. Just wait, I'll go out and tell them all about your little escape plan right now!"
Kaido, King, Queen, and Rebecca all twitched at the same time.
Roberta was shocked. "Are you insane?"
"Yeah, I am! If you're going to leave me behind, then nobody's leaving!" Jem declared as he marched towards the door.
Kaido's face tensed. "Stop him, now!"
Both King and Queen immediately stood up, blocking Jem's path in perfect sync. Queen's large frame entirely obscured the doorway, blocking out almost all sunlight.
"What… What are you doing?" Jem stammered, startled by their sudden movement.
"Mr. Roberta," Kaido said with a sigh of relief before standing and approaching. "I don't know what's going on between you two, but I don't think you want him to leave."
"You…" Roberta was dumbfounded, staring at Kaido. For some reason, an unsettling feeling crept over him. This man seemed very different from the seasick boatman he had known before.
Kaido walked up to Jem and reached out, gripping his head. Jem struggled violently, but no matter how much he tried, he couldn't escape Kaido's iron grasp or make a sound.
Kaido spoke calmly, "How about we kill your friend? Then he won't be able to betray you."
In Kaido's hand, Jem's eyes filled with terror. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"K-Kill him?" Roberta stammered, stunned by Kaido's words.
He hadn't expected the situation to escalate to murder. Though he had just argued with Jem and was furious that Jem would betray him, he hadn't considered killing him.
Roberta was just a simple fisherman from a small island. He spent his days fishing, living a quiet life. How could he even think of killing someone? The thought never even crossed his mind.
His hands trembled slightly, and his face twitched from the overwhelming tension.
Was this man really a boatman?
Could someone who so casually talked about killing really be just a boatman?
At that moment, Roberta finally understood. The three people standing before him were definitely not ordinary boatmen. Their behavior earlier was proof enough.
As Roberta processed this realization, he recalled all the strange signs these people had shown from the moment they first boarded the ship. Everything made sense now.
Taking a deep breath, Roberta forced a smile onto his face as he spoke again. "No, no, this is between me and him. You don't need to trouble yourself. Let him go."
However, Kaido's grip did not loosen.
"Let him go?"
Kaido smiled playfully, "I'm afraid not."
Roberta's heart seemed to skip a beat.
Kaido spoke calmly, "This guy wants to run off and inform someone, doesn't he?"
The pressure from Kaido's hand gradually increased, causing Jem's expression to grow more pained.
"Wait!"
Roberta suddenly gritted his teeth.
He glared fiercely at Kaido, "I don't know who you are, but you've got to be afraid of something."
Kaido was silent for a moment. "In that case, I'm afraid you won't be leaving."
"Boss," King reminded, "those people outside still want him to guide them. If he dies, we could be exposed."
"It's fine," Kaido said calmly, as if he had already made his decision.
"They won't find out immediately. We'll have enough time to escape and go into hiding."
King remained silent.
Kaido frowned, watching Roberta curiously. He couldn't understand why Roberta was smiling in such a dire situation.
This journey at sea really was something else.
Roberta thought to himself. First, encountering those terrifying pirates, and now these extraordinary shipwrights. So much had happened, and they hadn't even reached Yerug yet.
Roberta sighed. "This was originally meant for the people outside, but now it seems like it's going to be used on you."
"Hm?"
Kaido smirked, "You're bluffing. Believe me, I could deal with you without making a sound."
"What about this?"
Roberta pulled something from his coat.
When Kaido, Queen, and King saw it, they grew visibly uneasy.
In Roberta's hand was a dark bomb.
Kaido's eyelids twitched. This guy was insane. He actually dared to carry a bomb around.
Roberta smiled. "I may not know who you are, but judging by your reactions, it looks like you're afraid of those people outside. So, the question is, do you think you can escape before this bomb goes off?"
Kaido was silent for a moment. "Stop messing around. I was just joking earlier."
He was, after all, feeling a bit cowardly.
