Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

Another duo that was in the same position as both Cami and Carter's mom was himself and Page. The two of them were the only ones who were still each other's friend rather than just their acquaintance. Which was not that much of a change at least for the two of them, especially Page. She did not really have any friends in the first place as everyone in the village when was still just that. They did not accept her as truly a part of their community at the time with the only ones doing so being Carter and his mother. So while she was not glad and overjoyed that she was considered to be truly a resident of the community that she had grown up around and in. She interacted with everyone just like she had always wanted and they treated her like she had always wanted to be treated as well.

However an acquaintance is merely a person one knows slightly, but who is not a friend. There are those that four of them consider close acquaintances but no one that they consider to be close friends. To them, there are only acquaintances (normal and close ones), friends, family, and best friends. There might be different viewpoints that the other residents have and they might both understand and comprehend things better or even differently than the four of them.

While his mother and Cami were having their usual talks. He and Page were eating and drinking as they normally do around this time. This was not anything that neither of them found strange despite being roboticized going on an untold amount of years now. They had been in these metallic forms possibly longer then their originally organic ones at this point and time. So their memories of it could have even started to get blurry or would have if they did not just recall everything that happened to them during their lives. Unlike his mother and even Cami herself, Page and Carter have retained all the memories of their human lives completely and fully. While Cami recalled nothing of her human life just who she was now as the subordinate for the Southern Guardian Reva. Those that were now residents of the city they all lived in recalled everything that happened in their lives as humans however there was one thing that they did not recall at all. This was something that was shared between all of them at this point and time.

None of them recall ever being human at all. They have always considered themselves to be robots from the very start and the memories they have were just those that they have since they had were created originally (the time they were roboticized). Carter just assumed this was a result of Reva's roboticization process and him being offline when it happened. Not giving them anything to do other than just roboticizing them only left everyone in this state where they were robots but did not serve to do anything beyond what they were doing already.

Page just never brought up that she still has her human memories because no one ever asks her about them. Since no one ever asks she never says anything and that similar to what Carter does. His mom actually does not know about being human in her memories beyond being his mom and Page's guardian as she clearly recalls all those. Why does she only have those and not any of her others where she recalls them crystal clear? However, she recalls them only as being a robot like everyone else. Carter is not sure but thinks it has something to do with her being under him rather than Cami and thus Reva ultimately.

As for where all this food and drink that Carter and Page eat go that rather interesting thing to think about. Neither one of them has a digestive system anymore as they merely can consume food and drink. They do not need to do so at all but when they do the process of eating and swallowing their food and downing what drink they have at the moment. It is not just water as there are still a variety of drinks that they can choose from in the city just because they are the only two that actually use them. Others still tend to farms, brew various drinks, and even research various things because that is what they want to do thus that is what they end up doing.

When it comes to Page and Carter what ended up swallowing does not go into their now nonexistent digestive system. Instead, it just gets immediately converted into power that they can use right away. Not just a fraction of it as what they eat or drink they get one hundred percent of that as energy the moment they sallow it. They are the only two known to still eat and drink on a semi regular basis as there is a reason for it it is just that none of them know what it is for exactly.

"Your mom always makes the best meals. She has only gotten better with time" Page says

The two of them were still busy eating their last meal.

"Of course, as she might not be the best cook in the city, but she does know what we like, after all," Carter added.

Unknown to the two of them his mother had relearned how all those dishes were supposed to taste as she had actually lost her original sense of taste. Thus she was going off what her memories told her that they were supposed to taste like. This is why she had used to run out of power after finishing cooking sometime in the past as she was pushing herself to perfect the taste to what they wanted and what her memories told her it should taste like. Food cooked by a robot that does not have a human sense of taste anymore would be different than one that still does somehow. The ability to taste things is not exclusive to humans it just how things taste that are.

"Here, try mind, as I bet it tastes different from yours," Page suggested, offending Carter with some of her food.

The two continued their meal unaware of what it meant that they were even able to do that or the deeper meaning this might entail for them both.
