Irina could barely react when a sudden kick to the head made her brain rattle and her teeth quake, pain exploding against the back of her skull like a sledgehammer. She would have spat out another mouthful of blood—if she hadn't already bled dry. More than once, she had been forced to bleed through, but now her body had nothing left to give.
