Joe was simply driving ahead and paying no attention to her. Seeing him ignore her for so long, a flash of anger swept over Mary's face.
Feeling the irritation in her heart, she pulled a cigarette from her bag and placed it between her lips.
Her hand propped on the window, she watched the outside scenery, wondering why it looked as if they were heading out to the suburbs.
"Are we going to the suburbs?" Mary glanced at the scenery outside. The lighting seemed to be getting dimmer.
However, the person beside her was acting mute, focused solely on driving their car.
Mary rolled down the window and extended the cigarette outside, tossing the smoke away. She twitched the corner of her mouth, clearly dissatisfied with Joe's attitude toward her. But no matter how dissatisfied she was, she still needed to conceal her emotions, because at the moment, she could only survive by relying on their protection.
