Chapter 257 - Free Things Costs The Most!

"I heard that you haven't been attending lectures and haven't come out of your room for the past few days… So I came to check on you—and this is what I find? You're having an affair with a girl?" Lilith said in a strict, scolding voice.

She was sitting on a chair in her private office. After stepping down from her position as the vice-principal, she had become just a normal instructor. Her workload was light now, and she had her own quiet space.

In front of her was a wooden desk. On the other side stood Kailith and Maruti, both listening to her lecture. Lilith had already scolded them once, but she was repeating herself now—she was that disappointed.

Hearing Lilith's words, Maruti suddenly smiled brightly. Her eyes sparkled like little stars.

"What luck! Her mother found out about us! Now she'll surely disapprove, and I'll finally be free from Kailith—yes! Seraphine's divination was wrong, Glory to Lilith ", she thought cheerfully in her mind, full of hope and joy.

On the other hand, Kailith was completely still. She didn't know whether to feel relieved or worried.

"I can't believe it... Even mother didn't see through my disguise. Maybe it's because her powers dropped a lot after that deadly fight," Kailith thought, feeling a little proud.

But that feeling didn't last long.

"Still... she found out about me and Maruti. What do I do now?" she wondered, trying to hide her panic behind a blank, expressionless face.

Lilith looked at the two of them and let out a long sigh. Then, in a calm voice, she asked, "When did all of this start?"

"I don't remember! But I do know your daughter is a stalker," Maruti replied instantly, arms crossed.

"I'm not!" Kailith responded just as quickly, frowning.

"And she uses force and valuable things to tempt me!" Maruti added, acting dramatic.

"It was just a gift!" Kailith argued, sounding a little hurt.

"Fuck you," Maruti said without a care in the world.

"Yes. That's exactly what I want to do," Kailith replied boldly without a hint of shame.

Maruti was clearly trying her best to make Kailith look bad in front of Lilith—hoping that Lilith would forbid Kailith from coming near her again.

"STOP IT!!" Lilith shouted, slamming her palm on the desk. The loud sound made both girls flinch.

She closed her eyes and slowly exhaled in disappointment.

"Student Maruti, go into that room. I need to speak with my daughter alone," she said, pointing to a small wooden door on the left wall.

"Hmph. Nepotism at its peak!" Maruti muttered with a teasing grin before walking away and entering the room.

The room looked quiet and simple—probably meant for resting alone or private talks.

As the door clicked shut behind Maruti, a deep silence settled over the office. The air felt thick, like it might crack if anyone spoke too loudly.

Lilith raised one hand and traced a small circle in the air. A pale light flashed, sealing the room so no sound could slip out. Only after the spell settled did she look at her daughter.

"Kailith," she asked, her voice low but sharp, "why? I told you to stay away from her and the Vanara tribe. Yet here you are, in a secret affair. Did this happen before my warning?"

Kailith nodded once, eyes pinned to the floorboards.

Lilith sighed and pressed her fingertips to her forehead. She muttered to herself so softly that Kailith could barely catch the words. "Maruti saved my life. Now the Vanara tribe has sent their elder daughter to study here, claiming trust. Is it a plan? But… she looks annoyed by this relationship. Maybe she isn't even into girls. Ugh."

She rubbed her small hand through her hair in frustration. "Why did my daughter turn out liking girls? Maybe I should have helped her be more ladylike not dominative like I was in my prime," she whispered, half to herself, half to the ceiling.

After a moment she focused on Kailith again. "Are you forcing her?"

Kailith shook her head. "She likes me. She's just shy."

"And your proof?" Lilith folded her arms.

"When I locked myself in my room, she came again and again to check on me and brought gifts. And… I read her mind," Kailith answered in a flat voice, staring straight ahead as if reciting facts from a stone tablet.

Lilith's brows rose. "You read her mind? So your powers really have grown up."

Silence stretched between them, heavy as lead. Then a thought struck Lilith. "I nearly forgot—why did you lock yourself in at all?" She instinctively took a closer look at her daughter and gasped. "Wait… why is your left eye red?"

A dull thump echoed inside Kailith's chest. Her disguise wavered under Lilith's firm gaze. She slapped a hand over her eye and let out a shaky laugh. "Red? Hahaha...You must be mistaken. I haven't slept much these past few days."

"Kailith," Lilith warned, her voice edged with steel. Mother or not, she would not be lied to. "What is the matter?"

Kailith swallowed hard. "The truth will disappoint you," she whispered, shoulders slumped.

"Truths are always bitter," Lilith replied. "Tell me anyway."

"Then look." Kailith closed her eyes, and her human form melted away like paint in water. Horns curved from her head, long and smooth like polished bone. Her both eye glowed deep crimson. A sinuous tail flicked behind her, and her figure shifted to something dangerously alluring, More charming than a succubus.

Lilith stood up from her seat and staggered back a step. "A fallen dragon?" The words left her in a choking gasp. She pressed a trembling hand to her mouth, trying to steady her breath.

"You…" Her fists clenched, but anger gave way to helplessness. Tears pooled in her eyes, threatening to fall. "Why? Why does everything happen to me? My own daughter is a sex Maniac who can't control her lust!",

Lilith's chest felt tight as she remembered the ancient dragon laws. If anyone learned that Kailith was a fallen dragon, the good name Lilith had built over two long centuries would crumble to dust.

The thought stabbed at her heart.

The dragon queen's own daughter—a fallen one? It sounded impossible.

"This is my fault. I should have been a better mother," she told herself, guilt settling like a heavy rock in her stomach.

She glanced at Kailith. The girl stood with her head bowed, shoulders drooping, eyes fixed on the floor.

"Kailith, turn your back to me," Lilith said.

Kailith obeyed without a word, facing the wall so her mother couldn't see her face.

Lilith's hand curled, and a huge broadsword shimmered into being—nearly as tall as Lilith's small, childlike body. She lifted it with both hands, arms trembling. Tears slipped from her silver eyes.

"Keep looking forward," she whispered. "Don't make this harder."

The rule was clear: fallen dragons must be eliminated. Lilith raised the blade, its cold edge hovering at Kailith's neck. Kailith did not flinch; she closed her eyes and waited.

Lilith tried to swing. Her grip tightened. But at the last moment she let out a broken cry and hurled the sword away. The weapon slammed into the wall and clattered to the floor.

"Fuck justice!" she shouted, giving the table a weak kick. "I can't do it. I can't kill my own child."

Hearing those words, Kailith turned. Her eyes filled with shock and something softer—hope. "Mother chose me over the law?"She was genuinely baffled.

She had never seen Lilith so vulnerable. Warmth swelled in her chest. She crossed the space between them and wrapped her arms around Lilith's small frame. "I'm sorry, Mother," she whispered, her voice cracking.

Lilith froze, then hugged her back tightly. "When did this happen? How have you stayed sane?" she asked, her voice gentle and shaky.

"A few days ago or weeks, I can't really remeber," Kailith admitted. "My memories are blurry. I'm fighting to stay in control."

"That must be so hard," Lilith murmured. She glanced at the closed door that hid Maruti. "Does it really have to be her? I could find someone far prettier for you and as many as you want from any species."

The moment it got into kailith's ears, Her eyes widened and Kailith's arms squeezed like iron bands. "It has to be her. I can't picture anyone else. She's the one for me!"

Lilith pulled away, startled by the fierce reply. She tried to keep calm. "Did you… sleep with her after your awakening?"

Kailith shook her head. "No."

Lilith's face paled. "That's dangerous. A fallen dragon can lose mind or life if the need is ignored too long." Without hesitation she strode to the door and opened it.

Maruti stepped out, arms folded, chin lifted in pride. "So, have you decided? Fine—I won't see your daughter again. Just keep her out of my life," she said, unaware of the storm she had walked into.

Lilith and Kailith stared at her in silence.

Maruti started to feel unease and anxiety by the amount of silence in the room. "Why are you two so quiet?"

Then Lilith dropped to her knees. She bowed until her forehead touched the wooden floor.

"Please," she begged, voice raw and shaking, "sleep with my daughter."

Maruti's mouth fell open. For a heartbeat the room was so still she could hear her own pulse.

"W‑what?" she nearly shouted, stepping back.

"This is crazy! Aren't you supposed to forbid us?" she argued, but her words slid off Lilith like rain on stone.

Lilith lifted her head, silver eyes shining with urgency. "There's no time for a full story. I need you to make a formal pact with Kailith—one that covers her… needs. Your grades won't suffer; I'll handle all of that."

A sly smile tugged at Lilith's lips. "And you'll be paid well. I'll give you something worth more than gold."

Maruti spun toward the door, ready to bolt—until that last promise stopped her cold. "What kind of payment?" she asked, voice tight.

Lilith rose and spoke in a steady, solemn tone. "A fragment of a divine‑rank essence stone called Fate, two complete inheritances with enough resources to raise you to rank S, and an eight‑hundred‑year longevity stone. If you wish, I'll train you myself. Look at Lortell—I trained her too."

Maruti swallowed hard. Her eyes gleamed like shining coins while she fought to keep her cool.

"Free treasure… handed to me?, Kailith always pushed me into doing it anyway, This is free treasure coming to me", She thought but then a realisation hit her mind

"But… free things costs the most later, she warned herself.

She glanced at Kailith—Whi was back to her previous normal self without any hint that something was wrong with her.

"Fine," Maruti said at last, pretending to think deeply. "But I want one thousand years of lifespan instead of eight hundred. As for your personal training, I'll try it first. If I dislike it, I'll ask for something different."

Lilith nodded at once. "Deal."

"Deal? I should have asked for more," Maruti groaned inside. Feeling like she was the bride and this was a dowry.

"Wait a moment," Lilith said, moving to her desk. Years of academy paperwork had made her swift. Quill scratched across parchment; seals flashed with magic. Minutes ticked by—though to Kailith, every heartbeat felt like forever. Her tail twitched under her clothes, eager to flick free, but she forced it still.

Lilith returned with a neat stack. "Sign here."

Maruti took the sheets without shame. "I'm reading first." She flipped through each page. Everything looked fair. A few lines stood out—she must never reveal private matters about Kailith or Lilith or harm their names.

"Wasn't planning to anyway," She thought.

She signed with a clear hand and passed the papers back. "Done."

---------

Lilith guided Kailith and Maruti down the quiet hallway and into Kailith's dorm room. The door shut behind them with a soft click.

The small room felt familiar to Maruti. She had cleaned it, set fresh sheets, and aired it out when kailith arrived here for the first time. A faint smell of herbs still hung in the air, though weaker than before.

Maruti bounced onto the bed and let out a long sigh. "Why tonight? Can't we start tomorrow?"

"It's urgent," Lilith answered. "And remember, you won't get all your rewards at once. They'll come in pieces so you keep working with us."

Maruti rolled her eyes. "I figured as much," she muttered. She knew contracts and step‑by‑step instalment payments too well.

She stretched out on the bed, arms wide, while Kailith quietly slipped off her clothes. Maruti glanced at Lilith, who hadn't left.

"Still here? Planning to join, or what? I'm not used to being watched in private times, ya'know?" she asked, half teasing, half serious.

Lilith shook her head. "I'm staying to watch. Just in case if kailith crosses the boundaries, Think of me as I don't exist!",

"Boundaries?" Maruti frowned. Before she could ask more, Lilith knelt and snapped a cool metal band around Maruti's ankle. A short length of the same metal fixed the other end to the bed frame binding maruti with bed with chain in between.

Maruti stared at it. "Hey! What's this for?"

"Yggdrasil metal," Lilith said, stepping back to a chair in the corner. "Mined deep in the dwarf kingdom. Strong enough to hold an average dragon."

Maruti tapped the shackle. It felt like ice. She scoffed. "Relax. I'm not going anywhere. I have enough experience, I can take you and Kailith both of at once if you want to!",

Then she glanced at Kailith—and froze.

Kailith's silver eyes were now glowing red. Her body looked fuller, softer, dangerously enticing. Two curved, horn‑like spirals rose from her head. She wore only a long white shirt that barely covered her hips. Below that, nothing. A dark, succubus like tail flicked behind her, ending in a tiny heart shape. It twitched like an excited cat.

Maruti's eyes narrowed. She drew in a quick breath. Esdeath's words echoed in her mind.

"Wait… hold on." Her voice trembled. "I didn't sign up for this. This is cheating. You little lolicon—let me out of here!"
