As the first light of dawn broke, the morning's dew dampened the leaves in the forest and cloaked the carriage in a layer of mist.
"There should be a small town up ahead. Let's rest there for a bit and set out again after a brief respite," Roger instructed.
"Young master, it's just one night without sleep, it's nothing. I can endure it," said the maid guard gruffly.
"Exactly, pressing on is more important. When I was outdoors before, the conditions were much harsher than now."
Chloe was about to say more, but considering Roger's recent changes, she thought better of it and swallowed her words.
"If necessary, we can take turns. If we're fast enough, we should be able to leave the border province before evening. For now, the only option is to head to the more remote north," Chloe sighed in support of continuing forward.
"Even if you don't need it, the horses should take a good rest, and we left in a hurry, not carrying complete gear."
