Captain Fenris slammed her fist onto the makeshift war table so hard the map markers went flying like confetti.
"We're not sending a full battalion after one mage! That's final!"
Isabella's tail bristled up like an angry cat's.
"That 'one mage' is the reason half your camp isn't dead after last night's attack!"
They'd been arguing for about an hour. The sun was setting. Everyone looked ready to either pass out or murder someone.
"Blackflame knew the risks when she joined this mission," Fenris said, but even she didn't sound convinced by her own bullshit. "We will get her back when the opportunity presents itself."
Armia stepped forward.
"With respect, Captain, we're wasting time. Every hour Melisa spends with the darians is another hour they could be extracting information from her."
"Or worse," Isabella muttered.
Raven, who'd been silent up to this point, spoke up.
"We need a distraction."
All eyes turned to her.
"What kind of distraction?" Fenris asked.
