The poisonous needles rained like black raindrops against the gray sky.
The fastest Hashira blurred out of sight, popping in and out of existence.
The surroundings rang with little tink-tunk noises, metal striking metal in a breath of a second.
By the time Shinobu Kocho reappeared next to the Flame Hashira, she had already neutralized the needles, not a single one escaping her attack.
…
"Incredible," Mayuri commented, standing next to Kai. "Truly incredible."
Kai had already told him about all the details regarding the difference between the Verse Fusion Random World and the Bleach Random World; especially when it came to Bankai.
Mayuri's gaze lingered on the Flamed Cursed Marks on Rengoku and the Butterfly-shaped similar Cursed Marks on Shinobu and his pupils constricted.
"What do you think?" Kai asked.
"Can I have her for one day?"
Kai slowly shifted his head toward the mad Captain and shook his head.
Mayuri shifted a step to his left, away from Kai. "… you are scary, eh?"
"I will give you something else," Kai said a moment later. "But I want results."
"That's natural," Mayuri grinned, showing his teeth. "Results are all that matter."
…
Shinobu Kocho and the other Hashiras had become much stronger — an inevitable consequence of Kai becoming stronger, as the Verse Fusion Random World actively tuned itself to counter him and his Glitch.
However, if something truly stood out in this timeline, then that was the Demons.
Kai had already confirmed that the Twelve Demon Moons, especially the Upper Ranks, were becoming exponentially stronger compared to the Hashiras.
It wasn't because the timeline favored them over the Demon Slayers.
It was because of one simple fact — Hashiras were human and, at the end of the day, had their limits.
Meanwhile, the Demons' growth potential was unlimited.
It became even clearer to Kai after theorizing that the Verse Fusion Timeline was actively trying to possess Muzan, the Demon King, and not a Demon Slayer.
On the ground, seeing another Hashira appearing next to the dying man, the five demons had initially been taken aback.
Then, together, they exploded with laughter.
"And here I was, missing the fun!" Urogi, the Joy, boomed, flying high in the sky.
"At least now he will not die alone…" Aizetsu, the Sorrow, mourned, sighing.
"I wonder if they are lovers…" Karaku, the Pleasure, grinned.
Sekido, the anger, roared, "Blast them to pieces!!!"
Red and blue bolts of lightning thundered blasting right on the top of the two Hashiras in their Bankai state.
Karaku pulled his hand back and swung the fan, sending out a green pillar of wind, blasting everything to pieces.
Urogi let out another scream, the sound rippling the space.
Aizetsu could be seen nowhere.
From the other side, several vases appeared in Gyokko's baby-like hands.
Blood Demon Art —
With a slimy boom, an uncountable number of fishes exploded out, lunging at the Hashiras.
— Ten Thousand Gliding Slime-Fish!
Shinobu blurred between the hacking lightning as Rengoku alone faced the full brunt of wind and sound attacks.
"Those fishes release poison when destroyed!" Rengoku shouted, whacking away the wind pillar and gritting his teeth.
Uncaring about the lightning, the fishes descended upon the Insect Hashira, devouring her whole.
Booommmmmmm!
"Marvel my art!" Gyokko shouted, laughing and clapping with his baby hands.
Urogi and Karaku joined Gyokko. "That's it?! Was that even a Hashi…"
Something happened that none of the demons saw coming.
One moment, they still had their original appearance.
In another, Hantengu's four emotions simultaneously gained giant butterfly tattoos on the back of their heads.
The tattoos' outlines were so thick, in fact, that they looked like someone had redrawn them many times over… at least three times.
Pop!
Pop-Pop-Pop!!
The four demons' heads exploded, blood showering everywhere.
Flame Hashira's panicked expression suddenly melted away, a smile surfacing on his bloody lips.
He raised the giant, curved sword, boiling with flames, and brought it down with bleeding vengeance.
Roarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
Lava oozed off the sword, taking the form of a two-headed dragon.
It engulfed all the fishes, incinerated them to ashes, and, in a fraction of a second, arrived in front of Gyokko.
Shinobu blurred near Rengoku, the Hashiras surrounded by headless demons and flames.
Despite the obvious signs of the upper hand, their expressions were grave.
The stumps on the necks of four demons were already squirming.
On the opposite side, the two-headed dragon had roared its way to nothingness, but Gyokko's vase could still be seen, hinting at his use of teleportation.
When Gyokko came out of the vase, half of his body was burned, shooting flames.
The regenerating flesh on his body kept burning, though.
"HOW DARE YOU?!" Gyokko roared, discarding his skin.
Blood Demon Art —
A vase appeared in his hands, its mouth pointing toward the two ugly beings.
— Octopus Vase Hell!
Gigantic tentacles boomed out of the vase, slithering toward the Hashiras.
Rengoku eyed the four demons and mumbled to Shinobu, "I had already beheaded them once. Now, you did it again."
Shinobu nodded. "They aren't the main bodies," she admitted.
The Insect Hashira had learned the distinct trait of Upper Moon Six from the sealed Daki.
That's why, she had blasted the heads of these four demons simultaneously, at the cost of Rengoku facing the attacks on his own.
The Hashiras shared a glance and nodded in understanding.
Rengoku closed his eyes, and, in the next moment, opened them, sensing a presence hidden deep into the forest.
CraCk!
His feet dug deep into the earth, the soles of his feet bursting out in flames.
Then, with a scorching boom, Rengoku fired himself straight through the incoming tentacles.
With a tearing, cackling noise, all the tentacles lit up like a dry stick thrown into the fire. Ash rained, annihilating the massive blood demon art.
Shocked, Gyokko was about to teleport away, when a massive butterfly tattoo appeared on his neck.
This?!
Shinobu lifted her finger off the demon and giggled. "Ara-Ara… did you call me ugly?"
With a resounding pop, Gyokko's head exploded to smithereens.
Shinobu's eyes, though, narrowed instantly. In front of her, there was no demon anymore, but only a husk, the vase vanishing in amber-colored points of light. Shedding?!
Deep into the forest, Rengoku burned his way toward the presence.
Suddenly, he heard the sobbing sounds.
It was a tiny, old man.
Found you! "Those who destroy families, aren't worthy of mercy!" Rengoku lifted the sword. "Roar my bones!"
The great, curved sword shone brighter than ever.
Trees, earth, and even the sky felt the heat, burning away as Rengoku's Spirituality became hot, dense lava.
Tearing through the air, leaving a blinding arc, the sword landed on Hantengu's neck.
Booommmmmmmm!
"Ahhhhhhhhhhh!" Hantengu cried as the sword entered his neck.
"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Rengoku roared pushing the sword deeper.
Suddenly, the hair on the back of Rengoku's neck stood on their ends.
It was like death was eying him from behind, the wounds on his back itching beyond the pain.
It was a presence. Neither Sekido, Urogi, Karaku, Aizetsu, or Gyokko had smelled like this — pure, hatred.
"… TO THE END!" Rengoku shouted, determined to hack through Hantengu's neck.
Thud…
The sound was low, like a strike on a drum.
A gigantic wood dragon tore its way toward Rengoku before he could behead the little demon.
The Flame Hashira didn't care. He would die, but he would make sure that the sword would reach the other end of the neck.
CRACK!
However, the dragon suddenly opened its mouth and roared.
Golden waves of supersonic sound boomed out, hit Rengoku's back, and sent him flying.
…
Kai and White Serpent Pirates and the Hashiras watched all this from the sky.
"Let us go!" the Mist Hashira said, looking down. "It's time to end it!"
The Wind Hashira had already been shouting all the time.
The Love Hashira looked at the Insect Hashira and her grip on the sword tightened.
The Water Hashira had remained silent all the time, but one could see a hint of iciness in his eyes.
The Stone Hashira had said nothing so far, believing the Leader's words.
It was the Sound Hashira who stepped up, then. "They need help," he said, smiling. "What's on your mind?"
The Sound Hashira had fought Kai before. He didn't carry as much hate against Kai's demons as others.
Kai smiled back at the Hashiras and pointed down.
The demonified Demon Slayer had already disappeared, the roar of repulsors leaving a trail behind her like a blue comet.
