Chapter 21 - The Parrot of Truth

A peculiar commotion drew Sabel's attention in the heart of the bustling marketplace, where merchants peddled their wares and townsfolk exchanged tales. Perched atop a gilded cage was a parrot unlike any other. Its feathers shimmered with hues of emerald and sapphire, and its eyes gleamed with an uncanny intelligence.

The vendor, a wizened old man with a mischievous grin, proclaimed, "Behold, the Parrot of Veritas! This bird sees through falsehoods and speaks only the truth."

Intrigued, Sabel approached. "Is that so?"

The parrot tilted its head, eyeing Sabel keenly. "Indeed, young prince. Lies unravel before my gaze."

Amused and skeptical, Sabel decided to test the claim. "I am but a humble merchant," he stated.

The parrot squawked, "Falsehood! You are the runaway prince turned barista, seeker of unity through enchanted brews."

A hush fell over the crowd. Sabel chuckled, both impressed and slightly unnerved. "Impressive. What's your name, truth-teller?"

"I am Percival, once a court advisor, now avian observer of truths."

Recognizing the potential of such an ally, Sabel negotiated with the vendor and welcomed Percival into his entourage.

Back at the café, Percival quickly became both a curiosity and a confidant. Patrons would pose questions, and Percival's candid responses often led to laughter, revelations, and occasionally, discomfort.

One afternoon, a nobleman entered, seeking a discreet meeting. As he sipped his brew, he whispered to Sabel, "I come with intentions of alliance."

Percival interjected, "Deception! He plots betrayal, aiming to usurp your influence."

The nobleman's face paled. Sabel, maintaining composure, replied, "In this café, truth is the only currency."

Word of the truth-seeing parrot spread, drawing individuals from all walks of life. Some sought clarity, others attempted deceit, but none could escape Percival's discerning gaze.

As days turned to weeks, Sabel realized that while truth could be enlightening, it also bore consequences. Relationships were tested, secrets unveiled, and the delicate balance of diplomacy strained.

One evening, Sabel confided in Percival, "Your gift is invaluable, but perhaps, sometimes, ignorance is bliss."

Percival responded, "Truth is a double-edged sword. Wield it wisely, and it becomes a tool for unity. Misuse it, and it divides."

With newfound understanding, Sabel decided to use Percival's abilities judiciously, ensuring that truth served to heal and unite, rather than harm.
