Chapter 178 - 155: Yuna's Visit.

So, in that moment—after the girl he had just met closed the door behind her—Kai lay down on the bed, trying to get some rest.

He had no idea what he was supposed to do the next day, nor what would've happened if they hadn't reached Rei in time.

His mind kept circling back to Hina's revelation.

It had shaken him to the core.

And yet, deep down, he had always known they would have to face that truth sooner or later. If they wanted a way out of this mess, they'd have to face it together.

His heart still ached—bitter, heavy, almost betrayed in a way he couldn't quite explain.

All he could do was fix his pillow and turn onto his side, curling up as if to shut the world out.To silence the storm inside.

"Damn it… I can't live like this anymore," he whispered to himself, his voice heavy with sorrow.

He wished he could go back.

Back to a normal life.

Back to his parents' mansion, where everything was safe, easy, quiet.

The thought had crossed his mind countless times—just running away. But he knew…

He'd already passed the point of no return.

No matter how tightly he shut his eyes, peace wouldn't come.

In fact, the silence only made it worse.

Each thought echoed louder in his head, like screams in a vacuum.

Then came the memories.

Strange voices.

The vivid flash of the first time he killed someone.

That moment never stopped haunting him.

Oddly enough, what had happened during the chase didn't bother him at all. That was easier to digest.

"What did I do to deserve all this?" he kept asking himself, still curled up tightly.

His mind wouldn't stop spinning.

And the only thing flooding in were dark, painful thoughts.

For the briefest moment, the idea of leaving Hina entered his mind.

But then—

He saw her again.

That radiant smile, shining through all the pain on her face.

It was stronger than any nightmare.

Kai didn't want to lose that smile.

He wanted to live.

To be happy—with her.

No matter how impossible everything felt.

Even Rei's shocking revelation hadn't shaken that one wish from his heart.

"I just need to sleep…" he murmured, squeezing his eyes shut even tighter.

But then—Three soft knocks broke the silence. He instantly opened his eyes.

Someone was at the door.

He sat up quickly, heart skipping.Maybe it was Hina?

"Who is it?" he called out, voice hesitant.

"…I-It's me. Yuna."

Kai's eyes widened.

Not with excitement.

But with a quiet, sinking disappointment.

He hadn't even realized how much he wanted it to be Hina—

Until it wasn't.

For a second, he didn't say anything.

Just stared at the door, his heart heavy in his chest.Yuna's voice had shattered that tiny hope he didn't know he was holding onto.

"…Oh," he murmured, barely audible. "Yuna…"

He dragged a hand down his face, forcing himself to breathe.

Then stood up slowly, the mattress creaking under him.

He opened the door.

Yuna was standing there, awkwardly, her fingers nervously gripping the hem of her sweater. She looked like she'd debated for a long time before knocking.

"I… I didn't mean to bother you," she said softly. "I just… saw your sadness."

Kai looked at her.

Her eyes were kind. Worried. But they weren't the eyes he was looking for.

Still, he nodded and stepped aside without a word, letting her in.

Yuna hesitated, then walked in carefully, as if the room itself was fragile— or like she could feel the weight of the air Kai was suffocating in.

She sat at the edge of the bed, hands clasped tightly in her lap.

Kai remained standing, leaning against the wall, arms crossed, his gaze distant.

"I thought you might need someone to talk to," Yuna offered, glancing up at him with a small, uncertain smile.

Kai didn't respond at first.

He looked past her, eyes unfocused—but his voice, when it came, was low and tired.

"Talking doesn't fix anything," he said. "Not tonight."

Yuna's smile faded a little, but she nodded, accepting it.

"Then I'll just sit here," she whispered. "Quietly."

And so they sat— one on the bed, the other against the wall—with miles of silence between them.

Not the kind that hurts.

But the kind that… understands.
