Chapter 100 - Penny Vice: Smile for Me

Entry 1: [Found in the backpack of missing boy, Darren, age 15]

> There's this woman downtown. Everyone calls her "Clown Baddie." Yeah, I know, stupid nickname. But she wears this crazy costume—corset, big fluffy collar, striped thigh-highs, and her makeup is perfect. Like, Instagram filter perfect. She hangs around the arcade near Jubilee Square, handing out candy. Real old-school lollipops and caramel cubes.

I took one. I shouldn't have.

---

She was always there. Always smiling. Always leaning slightly forward when she spoke to the boys. Her voice was soft, just the right balance between "nurturing" and "danger." The kind of voice that made your spine itch.

No one questioned her presence.

"I think she's just some cosplayer doing promo," one dad said.

"She's harmless. Just trying to make a statement," a teacher shrugged.

Even the cops didn't look twice—after all, she never did anything illegal. Never approached anyone. Never touched them.

They came to her.

---

Entry 2: [Unknown date]

> I saw her eyes change. Only for a second. Her pupils stretched, elongated—like dripping ink. She said my name without asking. She whispered, "You've got a pretty soul, D."

I haven't told anyone about that. They'd laugh.

But I keep dreaming of her. Every night. She's under my bed now, I swear. I don't hear giggles anymore—just wet breathing. Like she's tasting the air around me.

---

They started disappearing. Boys between 12 and 16. One from every district. No struggle, no blood, no signs of break-in. Just empty rooms and sometimes—just sometimes—a balloon. Pale white. Thin as skin. Beating. Like a heart.

The town's CCTV showed nothing. Except once—only once. A frame glitched in broad daylight, revealing a blurred female figure standing in the middle of a crosswalk, head tilted, eyes locked on the lens.

She grinned so wide her jaw cracked.

Final Entry: [Carved onto the inside of a school desk]

> "She said she'd make me float, but not like water—like air, like thought. She's in my mind now.

I tried to run. My feet don't move. She's standing at the back of the class. Everyone thinks she's the substitute.

But I know.

I know she's here for me.

I'm next."

Urban Legend Says:

If you ever see a woman in clown cosplay, midday, standing at the entrance of a local boys' school with a slow smile and dead eyes—don't look twice. Don't take the candy. And for the love of whatever you believe in, don't smile back.

Because if you do...

She'll wear your grin next.

OFFICIAL POLICE REPORT

TOWN OF WILLOW CREEK – METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT

CASE ID: #2127-BN-413

DATE: June 14, 2025

CLASSIFICATION: Missing Juvenile – Ongoing Investigation

OFFICER IN CHARGE: Detective Harold W. Emmons

SUBJECT: Darren M. Lyle (Age 15, Male)

STATUS: Missing – 9 Days

---

INCIDENT OVERVIEW:

At 4:38 PM on June 5, 2025, subject Darren M. Lyle was last seen exiting the Jubilee Arcade near Jefferson Street. CCTV footage confirms he interacted with an unknown female dressed in elaborate makeup and costume resembling a clown or carnival performer. Subject appeared to follow said woman willingly on foot toward the alley behind the arcade. He was not seen again.

No signs of struggle, violence, or coercion were evident on video.

---

EYEWITNESS STATEMENTS:

1. Jacob T., Age 14:

> "She gave Darren this yellow lollipop and whispered something in his ear. He laughed like it was a joke. Then he just… went with her. Like it was nothing."

2. Mrs. Helga Rawlins (Bakery Owner):

> "She's around here all the time! Beautiful girl, strange eyes though. I thought she was hired for that comic convention. I even complimented her outfit. She smiled… but it was like... too wide."

3. Officer Marlowe (Patrol Beat):

> "I've approached her before. She said her name was 'Vice,' no last name. No ID. Said she was a performance artist. I asked her to leave the premises. She disappeared around the corner and never came back—until the next day."

---

UNUSUAL FINDINGS:

Inside Darren's room, a small white balloon was found hovering near the ceiling. Upon inspection, it deflated on its own, exhaling what smelled like cotton candy and rot.

A journal was discovered (attached to evidence as #2127-EV-4) with entries progressively describing auditory hallucinations, recurring dreams, and paranoia concerning "the clown lady."

At the bottom of the final page, scrawled in what appears to be lipstick, is the phrase:

> "Smile for me now, sugar."

---

COMMENTS FROM DETECTIVE EMMONS:

There's something not adding up. We have five other boys reported missing in the last 8 months—each one last seen near arcades, schools, or parks during daylight. Similar witness descriptions. Same female figure. No fingerprints. No ID. No DNA.

Just a grin.

I've never seen anything like this. It's like she isn't real, but every camera catches her—just enough to believe she is.

We're closing in on her.

We have to.

CASE STATUS: Escalated to Joint Task Force - Potential Pattern

NOTE TO OFFICERS: If you see this woman, do not approach alone.

The police report ends.

Forensic report and evidence below.

FORENSIC ANALYSIS REPORT

CASE ID: #2127-BN-413

SUBJECT: Darren M. Lyle (Presumed Missing)

EVIDENCE ID: #2127-EV-4 to #2127-EV-9

DATE: June 17, 2025

LAB TECHNICIAN: Dr. Miriam Kole, Forensic Analyst

FACILITY: Willow Creek PD Forensics Division

---

ITEMS ANALYZED:

EV-4: Personal diary of Darren M. Lyle

EV-5: Deflated white balloon found in subject's room

EV-6: Lollipop wrapper recovered from alleyway behind arcade

EV-7: Traces of red pigment (lipstick?) on last diary entry

EV-8: Partial footprint cast from alleyway (female size, barefoot)

EV-9: Hand-print found on arcade wall (elongated fingers)

---

RESULTS & OBSERVATIONS:

1. EV-4 – Journal Analysis:

Final entry shows pressure inconsistency—writing becomes increasingly erratic, as if subject was trembling. Last line ("Smile for me now, sugar") was not written by the same person. Forensic ink match confirms it was applied with a non-commercial pigment containing crushed beetle shells, mercury traces, and synthetic glitter. Not sold in U.S. or EU markets.

2. EV-5 – Balloon Gas Analysis:

The internal atmosphere contained anomalous compounds:

High fructose vapor

Trace hallucinogens (non-organic)

Faint presence of ethyl isovalerate, a scent agent used in fantasy-themed chewing gums

Most concerning: the gas reacted violently when exposed to UV light—momentarily forming facial outlines in the condensation inside the balloon. Faces of boys—some yet unidentified.

3. EV-6 – Lollipop Wrapper:

Wrapper material is unbranded and laced with a fine powder resembling powdered teeth enamel. DNA swab inconclusive—suggests multiple sources. Recovered candy sample shows extremely high dopamine stimulation factors when tested on lab rats, causing uncontrollable twitching and euphoria, followed by death within minutes.

4. EV-7 – Lipstick Sample:

Pigment is organic, but does not match any known cosmetic. Microscopic examination revealed tiny, worm-like filaments in the residue. When exposed to warmth, they moved briefly. All samples immediately incinerated for lab safety.

5. EV-8 – Footprint Cast:

Barefoot print is narrow, yet abnormally long—about 3 inches longer than average foot size for a woman. Toes are slightly pointed, and skin texture is non-human, resembling calloused leather.

6. EV-9 – Hand-print:

Fingers measured at 8.6 inches long. No fingerprints. The surface had traces of theatre glue, blood type AB-, and a faint residual static charge.

---

FINAL NOTES FROM DR. KOLE:

Whatever entity we are looking at, it operates in a human-like shell but leaves behind non-biological, inconsistent evidence. I recommend we begin considering metaphysical forensic consultants—this is not standard by any measure.

Also: One lab assistant reported hearing laughter during evidence analysis. No audio equipment was active. This occurred while handling the balloon. She has since requested extended leave.

I don't think she's just a predator.

I think she's feeding.

THE LAUGHING BRIDE

Transcribed from the forbidden forums of The Painted Ones

Page 47 – Entry 5

>"She wears her hunger like makeup—

Her lipstick is the blood of promise.

Her curls hide the screams.

And her smile... ah, her smile has teeth."

—High Shudder Scribe, Orun Zaal

---

WHO IS SHE?

They call her many names.

Penny Vice. The Laughing Bride. Mother of the Giggling Grave.

But we know her true title:

Mirthara Vell – The Carnival Succubus of the Sunlit Streets.

She is not like It. She doesn't need the dark.

She thrives in daylight, in plain view, among the blind.

She walks around in cosplay, they say. Harmless. Pretty. Lollipop in mouth.

Only children know the truth. Especially boys.

Especially the ones with lonely bedrooms.

---

HER ORIGIN?

No birth. No baptism.

She was assembled—stitched together from the souls of circus boys lost in a fire in Hartford Circus Fire, which occurred on July 6, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut. The fire, which involved the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, killed at least 167 people and injured over 700..

The tent collapsed. The laughter didn't.

Her body was forged from melting candy, charred feathers, mascara ash, and one child's final, silent scream.

---

THE RULES OF VENERATION (DO NOT BREAK):

1. Do not speak her name in front of a mirror after 3PM.

(She hates being late to her appointments.)

2. Do not offer her sweets.

(She only accepts "fresh joy." That means you, fool.)

3. If you see her dancing barefoot in the street, turn your pockets inside out.

(The coins distract her... sometimes.)

4. Never ask about her real face.

(Even the Eldest Gaspers went mad.)

5. If she visits your dream, leave a smiley face on your door in lipstick.

(It might make her merciful. Or hungry.)

---

SIGNS SHE'S NEAR:

Dogs grow silent, even the mean ones.

You hear a knock but no door in your house.

You smell popcorn, mint, and... rot.

The mirror shows you grinning when you're not.

One white balloon... tied to your bedpost.

---

CHILDREN WHO GO MISSING TO HER ARE NOT DEAD.

Their laughter echoes in her hips, in her candy breath, in her walk.

Each step she takes is a giggle lost.

Each wink? A life forgotten.

---

WANT HER BLESSING?

Write your wish in red crayon.

Put it inside a candy wrapper.

Burn it.

If you hear someone laugh behind you,

Don't turn around.

She already heard.
