Chapter 4138: All for Transcendence
Lin Moyu couldn't find any fault in Candle Dragon's words. He'd rarely interacted with Candle Dragon before, but even in just a few sentences now, Candle Dragon's immense ambition was clear. He too wanted to transcend, to take the final step like the Eternals, and was not content with his current state.
From this, Lin Moyu could guess what kind of situation Candle Dragon was in. He managed the world, but had to obey countless rules he had some authority, but could not overstep. He was both a manager and a puppet of the rules, never truly free. So, his pursuit of transcendence was only natural. If Lin Moyu were in his place, he would do the same.
Lin Moyu asked, "Did you also teach the mutated wild beasts?"
Candle Dragon replied, "That was just an experiment of mine, and it seems to have worked well."
Lin Moyu's mind stirred. "But if this continues, the mutated beast could very well kill those Eternals."
Candle Dragon cut him off, "They won't die at most, they'll be forced into dormancy. If one day they really do die, it just means they were too weak. Even the world itself will eventually end how could they think they could be eternal and undying? That's just laughable."
Indeed, even the world has its end, so how could anything within it be truly eternal? In Candle Dragon's eyes, the life and death of all beings had nothing to do with him. As long as it didn't affect his transcendence, he didn't care what happened to the world's creatures.
Lin Moyu said, "So you set up the formations in the Great Wilderness, enlightened the Beast Emperors, and helped them nurture mutated beasts all for transcendence?"
Candle Dragon replied, "They're just part of my experiment, and the results have been good. I got what I wanted. Aren't you the same? I remember you like to experiment too it's a good way to explore the unknown. You're much better than those others; you have a real chance to take the final step and achieve transcendence." There was appreciation in Candle Dragon's tone he clearly favored Lin Moyu.
Lin Moyu knew he was special; his Immortality Great Dao already proved that, and Candle Dragon surely knew how it came to be. That was why Candle Dragon looked at him differently within the bounds of the rules, at least.
Lin Moyu asked, "Can you tell me why you're collecting this filth power?"
Candle Dragon gave a soft laugh. "You're so smart can't you guess?"
Lin Moyu thought for a moment. "I have some ideas, but I'd rather hear it from you."
Candle Dragon said, "No harm in telling you. You should know the world is divided into yin and yang, and so is its power. The Dao source energy you collect is yang the essence of the Dao. The filth power I collect is yin the power of filth. Dao essence is limited by the world's rules, distributed throughout the world, and evolves into countless Daos. Filth power, by contrast, is not bound by the rules; it's dumped here like garbage, and from it the wild beasts evolved. But filth power is still a kind of power and can be used. I collect it to try to transcend do you see a problem with that?"
Lin Moyu shook his head. "No problem. The filth power you've refined has already surpassed the world's Daos you're not far from transcendence."
Candle Dragon shook his head. "Still far. Pure yang cannot grow, pure yin cannot endure. After refining filth power to the utmost, I found that filth alone can't let me transcend. I need a catalyst, something to further elevate the filth power and that catalyst doesn't exist within this world."
Not in this world? Could it be outside like the Soul Devouring Spirits, or something even farther, in chaos?
Candle Dragon said, "No need to overthink it. I've already found a way. When you reach Eternity, I'll come find you."
Lin Moyu asked, "What about the Great Wilderness?"
Candle Dragon replied, "The Great Wilderness has its own fate. Just like the Tun Yuan and Soulless Beast you created maybe they're the end of the Great Wilderness. My formation has been running for countless years, and the filth power has already been collected. Now I'm just waiting for you. So do your best don't let me down."
Lin Moyu asked, "One more thing what you want me to do, is it dangerous?"
Candle Dragon said, "There's some risk, but I'll protect you. Don't worry too much. Just cultivate well and don't disappoint me. You can stay here as long as you want, but don't touch the formation again. There are some secrets of the world here take a look if you like. What you've seen today is our secret don't tell anyone, or I can't guarantee what will happen."
The light faded, the statue returned to normal, and Candle Dragon was gone.
Lin Moyu looked at the tranquil surroundings, so different from the rest of the land. He had imagined many possibilities, but never Candle Dragon he hadn't expected things to turn out this way. The changes in the wild beasts, the formations in the Great Wilderness it was all Candle Dragon's doing.
For Candle Dragon, none of this was a burden. Cultivators pursue higher realms, often disregarding the lives of others, even slaughtering all beings and destroying the world, as long as their conscience is clear and their Dao heart unshaken. From a higher vantage, Candle Dragon was the same he would do anything for transcendence. Besides, he was only using the Dao wild beasts, which was nothing to him.
Lin Moyu continued to explore the area, the true core of the Great Wilderness. Candle Dragon said there were world secrets here, so he was curious. The area was vast and ancient; since the evolution of the world, no one but Candle Dragon had ever been here Lin Moyu was the second.
"A formation?"
Before long, Lin Moyu found a formation. This one wasn't Candle Dragon's work, but a true natural formation ancient beyond measure. It wasn't complex; Lin Moyu understood its function at a glance. It slowly drew power from the Dao Cloud and sent it elsewhere. In other words, this formation was a node in a larger formation network.
Lin Moyu became interested. "Using a natural formation as a node could there be a natural formation network here?"
Natural formation networks were only theoretical never seen in reality. Even the Hengduan Mountains, with a thousand natural formations, didn't form a network; Old Yin head had to add many formations to link them. But here, there might really be a natural formation network.
Lin Moyu thought of the legend: at the deepest part of the Great Wilderness, the world's greatest secret was hidden.
