Chapter 56 - Jake POV
I walk along the forest floor, naked, feet pressing into soft earth and leaves. Wolves don't care about nudity—it's natural, instinctive. But my fingers still tremble. I follow the scent, weaving past moss-covered trees until I find them.
The massive black wolf lies nestled in a patch of grass, licking the red wolf's fur with gentle, possessive strokes. The sight punches the breath from my lungs. I want to turn around, to vanish into the shadows. But I'm the alpha of Mystral—I have to do this.
"I greet the Alpha Prime," I say, bowing deeply.
The black wolf growls, low and ominous, before shifting into his human form. Power ripples off of him in waves. Then the red wolf shifts too—Ember. Goddess, she's changed. She leans lazily against him, the picture of confidence and power.
"Go on," Kellan grunts, his voice gravel and command. "I'd rather spend time with my mate."
I inhale sharply, swallowing the lump in my throat.
