A few days passed since their arrival onto this world. Adam managed to fit in, waking up everyday and doing his morning routine which involved his daily workout, cleaning himself in the inn's private bath then getting breakfast for himself and his goddess. Luckily the Inn provided breakfast and dinner to its customers as the inn rooms did not have a kitchen.
After his morning routine he would then enter the dungeon to collect more money. He held back from using the Divine Key and just used a normal sword. Once he had built up enough money and increased his stats enough, he would purchase better equipment and head deeper in the dungeon. But for tonight he would relax, he was recommended a tavern called the Hostess of Fertility by Eina, telling him how they have some of the best food in Orario. So, he would go there with Aqua.
Aqua needed an excuse to leave the inn room, she was pretty much a corpse that died of boredom, she had nothing to do but sit around and eat whatever Adam brought home or the inn provided. If it weren't for the fact that she was the one updating his status, he would have dragged her out and made her get a job.
'Actually, that's not a bad idea...' He shelved the thought for later.
He shook his head, tonight he was meant to relax and not think about work related thoughts. Adam and Aqua walked through the streets of Orario, the sun had already set, and the nightlife of the city came alive. Adam was quite surprised with how safe the city was at night, since this world was considered primitive compared to Earth, he expected the crime to be higher, thankfully he was proven wrong.
The only complaint he had was the lack of affordable and easy to access entertain, something that even Aqua agreed with him on.
"This is the place" Adam stopped in front of a cozy looking building. He walked through the entrance with Aqua behind him who was already drooling at the smell of the food.
"Welcome, Nya! Table for two?" They were welcomed by a waitress, with short brown hair and eyes, and with two cat ears and a tail.
"Yes, please" Adam responded. The cat girl then guided them to their table and gave each a menu of tonight's meals.
"I'll be back shortly to take your orders, Nyaa" She then left to another table.
Opening the menu, Adam was very impressed with the wide selections of food. Some similar to what he's had back on Earth, but many were still unknown with some having ingredients he's never heard off. The drinks section was also very diverse, something that Aqua appreciated.
A few minutes later, the cat girl returned to take their orders. "What would you like to order, nya?"
~CRASH~
Before Adam had the chance to speak, the sound of plates shattering caught everyone's attention. Looking in the direction, there was a gray-silver haired waitress kneeling, surrounded by broken dishes. Her body was sweating profusely, she raised her head, and their eyes locked for only a second. Her eyes had fear and something else that he wasn't quite sure was there, she quickly looked away. Another waitress, a blonde elf came to help her up, slowly taking her to the back where the owner a towering woman helped her, but the silver haired waitress looked back one last time.
The other waitresses were quick in cleaning up the mess, and returning to work, though they had a worried look that they hid well. The joyful atmosphere returned to the tavern, but people were still curious of what caused the young girl to collapse like that, perhaps from overworking? They could only speculate, but Adam who saw the look in her eyes had a few ideas.
'Do I look scary?' He asked himself. He didn't think so, he thought he was quite attractive. But after what happened, he was now reevaluating himself.
"Aqua, do I look scary enough to make someone collapse in fear?"
"HA?! Are you full of yourself?" she said, slamming her beer on the table.
'I guess not. Wait, where did she get the beer?' They hadn't even ordered yet, but one quick glance at the table over answered his question, he could see a dwarf searching the table and even the floor for his beer.
The waitress returned, offering an apology, and they ordered their food without interruption and Adam ate the best food he's had since coming to this world.
...
...
"Syr, are you sure you're alright? Maybe I should stay just in case."
The blonde elf had escorted Syr back to her room, and was reluctant to leave her alone after she had suddenly collapsed.
"I told you Ryuu, I'm fine. I just need to rest for the day, okay?"
After sometime of convincing, Ryuu parted. Syr walked up to her bed and laid down, staring at the ceiling.
'What was that?' She asked herself. It was just a normal day, pretending to be a mortal and working as a waitress. Though today she was surprised the appearance of a new familia from a goddess she wasn't aware of back in heaven. Seeing the new face of Aqua's familia captain, she instinctively looked into his soul, but what awaited her was something she had never seen throughout her time in existence.
At first she saw a small flame, nothing serious that would get her attention, but she felt the urge to look deeper. And past that inconspicuous flame was a beautiful yet terrifying great-sword, surrounded by a storm of hellfire.
Even though she was only looking, she could feel the heat of those flames radiating off the sword, and those flames embodied the concept of destruction. She was lost in the sight of it, until that raging hellfire suddenly became controlled, and the sword turned to her.
Her instinct screamed at her to stop looking into his soul, and as she did, she barely escaped the fire. While those flames wouldn't kill her, they could easily send her back to the heavens, and she knew it.
And so, she returned to reality with a crash. Falling over and dropping the dishes she was carrying. She hadn't even realized how much she was sweating.
Even now as she laid in bed, she could still feel the intense heat of those flames.
Instead of being scared off, she became attracted, never had she seen such a soul, one that could even detect her and try and attack.
'I wonder what you are'
A faint smile appeared on her lips.
'Maybe... it could be him...'
