The room became stilled with silence. A force so absolute within the space despite not truly existing it was quite horrifying. If one tried hard enough they could hear the impossible noise of each and every molecule bouncing around within the air, but even that may be drowned out by the nothingness as well.
Toriel clasped her hands together in front of her and rested her chin down on them. The eyes of the old goat dimmed and came to a close, sadness dripping from her pupils and slowly trailing down her fists. Her hands slowly shaked and her head turned down slowly into her fists. Silent sobs came from Toriel as the upsetting news of her mother had come to her. Adam averted his gaze from direct showing towards Toriel with a silence.
Toriel raised her gaze once more, she did not allow her tears to flow for long. She wiped away the tears with a paw and put a meek smile on her face. Her posture became slouched back within the couch. She spoke once more, but shakiness reverberated within her tone.
"Father, how did she die? I know it couldn't have been natural causes. She wasn't that old, and she sure as heck wasn't that weak. Did somebody kill her?" Toriel looked at him with a focus on her face, lined with a tinge of anger across her countenance.
Adam placed a hand onto his chin and scratched at his furry beard, crossing his legs one over another. His gaze now fully met Toriel's own when he would unveil the truth. "The cause of your mother's unfortunate early demise is… unknown." He let out a breath in the middle of his dialogue expressing his displeasure with the situation. "I've started an investigation due to the unusual nature, but we haven't found anything that points to a certain foul play. They must've been able to cover their tracks well, or nature had a rather cruel joke for all of us."
Toriel stood up with a static expression stepping towards her father and gazing down towards him. She spoke with a hint of anger within her voice, and trailed with concern. "Father, I want you to tell me what you think." Her arms folded across her chest.
Adam tapped on his chair with each of his fingers in a rhythmic pattern, hesitantly thinking of answering the question. Although he nodded his head seemingly answering a question to himself. His eyes met Toriel with a grim expression decorated across his face. It was as if something vile had invaded his mind and he wanted to get it out as quickly as he could. And thus his words came out in a burst, lined with disgust inside of them. "Toriel, I believe ebony has come across our lands. Sin has befallen our people."
Adam stands up quickly from his chair turning away from Toriel and beginning to pace around the room, his feet moving as quickly as his thoughts had. Now to unveil his long forged theory to Toriel and them all. "As you know for the most part we are peaceful beings. Blasphemy is very far and few inbetween. Yet greed has overcome our relatives. You know the boy who you were supposed to marry?" Adam turned towards Toriel for a moment, stopping his pacing, his Rhetorical question posed towards her. Toriel nodded in response. Adam continued his pacing right after. "Their family, well they were lower royals that really wanted more power. They wanted it beyond mere formality, it was to usurp our power right after."
Toriel raised her brow quickly after. This was something that certainly made Toriel rather shocked, she did not expect this from the people of her old home. Asriel and Asgore who were not exactly familiar with this place too had a bad feeling about where this was going. Yet they do not dare interrupt with the spiel. "And what is the cause for such atrocious thought father? I'm sure this isn't some wild idea of your mind."
Adam nodded back towards Toriel and continued speaking with the same mannerisms. "I overheard a conversation shortly after you left. They were speaking of their frustrations, and shortly after they thought I had left… of the status they had no longer gained. That they would steal from us. And we both know the only way to steal power from the throne. I fear they killed your mother as a symbol. They may come for me next time and try an alternative plan." He paused with an epiphany looking at Toriel. "Now that you're here. They can do exactly what they wanted to before. I must keep you safe, do not leave this place and tell no one."
Toriel held her hands onto her arms rubbing against them as if she was cold. Her head shook from side to side. "I am sorry father, but we cannot simply stay here. I brought them all here for a purpose. I wish for my family to learn of our people, and most imperatively our powers."
Adam stopped his movements abruptly after hearing the disagreement from Toriel. He raised a fist and slammed it against the wall, the whole house shaking from what seemed to be the force of his wrath. Adam's head snapped towards Toriel. Coming from his pupils a wetness started appearing, yet pulling back on itself, stopping its advance. "Did you not just hear me? You won't be safe just walking around now, who knows what will happen. I already lost your mother and I won't afford to lose you either. I don't care if you want to leave me again right after. I just couldn't go on knowing you had been slain."
Toriel seemed to almost slink back on herself, but she suddenly stood firm and spoke back to her father. "I respect you father, but I am not backing down. It is of utmost importance that I do this. We are dealing with our own problems back in the realm of Gaia. And without this I believe we may fall father. Either way there is the possibility for devastation!"
Adam turned away from Toriel, his body now leaning on the wall. Silence once more crept its terrible head in the air. After some computing within the mind of Adam, he turned around toward Toriel and spoke in a soft tone of concern. "Then at least allow me to come with you. Disguise yourself."
=============================================================================
Adam, Asgore, Asriel and Toriel all were walking along within the city now adorned with hooded cloaks on their bodies. Toriel had used magic to shift her appearance further to appear more goatlike similarly to Asgore and Asriel, always better to be safe than sorry.
Asgore decided to finally speak up after some time of walking, funnily he didn't think of asking earlier, but instead when they were already about halfway there. He cleared his throat making his presence known. "So where exactly are we going, Tori?" Asgore asked with a bit of interest lining his tone.
She turned her head slightly back to him as they wandered, a slight fit of embarrassment coming over her for seemingly forgetting to say. But nevertheless she would answer. "Asgore, I did want to show you around the place some more, as you can see it is quite a beautiful space, is it not? But we are not going to just wander around the town all day. We shall travel to the mystical forest. We'll have a talk.. And then we shall show you the real strangeness of our people." She chuckled slightly at the end and went off to walk some more.
They arrived some time after this, it was quite a lot further than Asgore and Asriel had expected, Asriel certainly showed this when they finally got to sit down and he collapsed on a cut apart log. Asriel took a deep breath and let out an exhale of great relief. "I thought we'd be dead before we got here, you know. We coulda run or teleport or something couldn't we?!"
Adam slowly gave him a side eye after he had sat down himself but said nothing further toAsriel. He wouldn't bother when his daughter had supposedly an urgent matter at hand. Toriel would have a smirky face towards Asriel and cut in right after. "Quiet my child, after what we've been through I know a couple hundred thousand of steps aren't going to kill ya."
Asriel just gave a somewhat tired nod. Toriel then turned back towards her father with a bright grin decorating the contours of her countenance, curling to a rather peaceful expression. Adam would look to her and ten to the rest as he straightened himself up and garnered the attention of everyone there.
"So, you would like to know about our people? Then I shall explain it all to you, we have existed for a long long time. I believe dating back all the way to the dawn of creation. But throughout all of our years, our purpose remains the same. We are forces of nature and act as such, each of us given roles from our birth. We influence the world around us with our natures by just being around certain things or people. Our presence makes sure that everything flows as it is supposed to, for instance Toriel is a yokai of peace. And I'm sure you can tell that just from the way that she acts, her reluctance to fighting that she's always had. Sometimes when reality shifts from what it's supposed to do, we leave our realm and hang about the incident area, sometimes we have to do a little extra to restore it to normal as well. There are beings that are not able to be seen that purposely cause these rifts, we call them 'negators.' Negating the very aspects of reality that are supposed to be there, vile creatures they are."
He paused for a moment and shook his head from side to side showing off his distaste. "As for us, you may wonder why we have never been seen before? That is because you can't see us. Our form isn't normally comprehensible or able to even be seen by people unless it is allowed by us. We are supposed to act with anonymity as if we were to be found out, well people with bad intentions may try to take advantage."
Adam stands up and slams a fist against his heart, like a proud soldier standing at attention, Toriel seems to have an embarrassed look covering her face. "And we yokai are very proud and strong people! We would never allow such dastardly individuals to sour our delightful domain. We are the fixers of reality, and shall not let it be broken at all costs." A small smile, yet a real one comes onto his face thinking of such a thing as he sits back down. "We do live in a monarchy, although I know many humans have gone with that democracy whatchamacallit. We create our bloodlines strong, us Yokai seek to make ourselves the greatest we can be. This sort of rule incentivises that you know? I know it may seem uncouth but that's how it is." Adam came to a sudden cease, looking between both Asgore and Asriel as if to give them an opening to speak as they processed the information.
Asgore would stroke his beard in thought. The idea of these yokai were rather peculiar to him as they were interesting. These powerful supreme beings, things that he couldn't actually witness. His eyes turned over towards Toriel. He couldn't believe that, this amazing woman who seemed even more so now used to be his wife. A slight frown came onto him as he turned away thinking once more of that broken bond, but he had already gotten past that. It was too late now anyways. Then something sparked within the mind of Asgore looking back to Adam speaking with sudden excitement in his tone.
"If all this is true, you can know how reality is supposed to be going correct? Can you tell us what's going to happen? Are we going to win the battle back on earth? Tell me will we all be okay?" Asgore seemed to plead for answers, concerned for the safety of everyone, he wouldn't want any more to fall under his watch.
Adam shook his head from side to side. "I apologize Asgore, but I am not allowed to do such a thing. It would go against the code and possibly cause a reality distortion in itself." He replied in a slightly dismayed tone. Asgore reacted similarly as he lowered his head to the ground.
Asriel looked worried between them both, but then he quickly thought of something to hopefully cheer up the situation with a soft grin on that adorable face of his. His gaze focused on Adam, his warmth seeming to transfer right over as his face slightly brightened. "So grandpa Adam, what is my nature? You said what mom was, but what about me!" Asriel's hands seemed to shake up and down with excited anticipation.
This was a certain nice change as Adam would gaze towards Asriel, energy formed and focused onto his eyes. His vision powered to see the soul of Asriel, and what lies beyond even that, to the axiom of his existence. This is something unknown to many people who believe the soul to be the highest level of existence, yet it is this. Even after the soul was to be gone, this still persisted. The soul may encompass what you are, the soul shifts and changes with the person, but the axiom is the absolute of the person. It does not shift and change as it is a fundamental constant within the person. From this you may find the purest of their natures within it.
When Adam looked at Asriel's nature, he found himself suddenly jumping back, almost falling off of his log. He had never seen something like this before. A nature that was so pure, so potent, and so powerful. If Asriel had any proper training… "This is certainly the most incredible nature I have seen in all of our history, you surely have done it my daughter. It is hard to describe what it even is. I cannot say, but it feels… divine? I know you will guide all around you to a glorious path, Asriel." Adam stopped speaking, his face looked quite proud and impressed with Asriel. Asriel shrunk back on himself with a small blush as he rubbed the top of his head.
Toriel herself would seem quite surprised as she never actually had the thought of looking at it, but they would soon get to that. Asgore would pat his son on the back, he looked at him quite pleased to hear that. Toriel cleared her throat and turned away from everyone looking deeper into the forest. "Now that you all know of our past, it's time to focus on the present. We must teach you the arts of our kind."
