Chapter 302 - Interruption
The night sky lit up like a fireworks show gone wrong, magic blasts tearing through the darkness.
Explosions roared, drowning out everything else. Through the conference room windows, Mahiro caught glimpses of black-robed figures dropping like flies, caught in the crossfire.
"What the hell's going on?" Rias gasped, her eyes glued to the chaos outside.
"Who's got the brains to crash our peace talks?" Sona muttered, her usual calm cracking.
Both girls stared out the window, stunned. Mahiro had warned them about a possible attack, but they'd brushed it off.
With Maou, the Angel leader, and the Fallen Angel governor in one room, plus elite troops from all three factions, who'd be dumb enough to try? Apparently, someone was.
Azazel stood up, peering at the fight with a bored look. "Kinda saw this coming."
The guy was an old-school badass, surviving wars that made this look like a playground scuffle. To him, this was just another Tuesday.
Rias let out a shaky breath. "Good thing Mahiro made us bring Gasper. If he was still in the clubroom, we'd be screwed."
Azazel's eyebrow shot up, his grin turning curious. "Oh? The Red Dragon Emperor called this attack?"
Sirzechs, Serafall, and Michael all turned to Mahiro, their stares heavy.
"Just covering my bases," Mahiro said, shrugging. "History's full of idiots crashing big meetings."
Michael nodded. "True. Every age has its terrorists. Today's a big deal for us, so of course some clowns can't handle it."
Mahiro smirked. "Still, these guys picked the worst time. If I were them, I'd hit you on the way home. Better odds."
"Seriously, what's wrong with their leader's brain?" he added, shaking his head.
In the corner, Vali's eye twitched, but he kept his mouth shut, leaning against the wall like he wasn't sweating bullets.
Serafall's face paled. "If they took out one of our leaders on the road, this whole peace deal would be toast."
The three factions had centuries of bad blood. One dead boss could spark a war, no matter how many handshakes they shared today.
"Lucky for us, their leader's an idiot," Sirzechs said, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "They panicked seeing us close to a deal and picked the dumbest move."
Right now, the room was a fortress—four faction leaders, two Heavenly Dragons, and Gasper's box under lock and key. The attackers were walking into a meat grinder.
Vali stayed quiet, his face blank. Mahiro caught the vibe—dude was probably rethinking his ties to the Old Maou Faction real fast.
Azazel rubbed his chin. "Thing is, this meeting was top-secret. Only we knew the time and place. Mobilizing this many fighters? That's not a weekend project."
Serafall's eyes narrowed. "So, we've got a traitor in our ranks."
"Gotta be," Azazel said, nodding. "But first, let's deal with these wannabe badasses outside."
The windows glowed with magic blasts, the school building shaking as stray shots hit its barrier. The conference room was built like a tank, its wards holding strong, but outside was a warzone. Black-robed magicians fired coordinated volleys, picking off the three factions' troops. The elites fought back, but the enemy's numbers were insane, with more pouring through the barrier's holes every second.
Azazel glanced at Vali. "Yo, Vali, time to earn your keep. Mess up their formation. Give our guys a chance to regroup, and we'll mop up."
The faction leaders could wipe the floor with these magicians, but they weren't about to step into the fray. Too risky—perfect chance for an ambush.
"No problem, Azazel," Vali said, his grin back. He was itching to ditch the room and avoid more shade about his "dumb" allies.
Light wings flared behind him. "Balance Breaker!" his Sacred Gear roared. White armor wrapped his body, the White Dragon Emperor ready to roll.
Vali turned to Mahiro, his eyes gleaming. "Red Dragon Emperor, our big fight's on hold, but how about a warm-up? Bet I can drop more of these losers than you."
Mahiro snorted, his hand already on his gauntlet. "You're on."
"Balance Breaker!" Red armor snapped into place, covering him head to toe. He pulled out Hyōrinmaru.
Eyes glowed under his helmet, locked on Vali.
The room tensed as Mahiro's stared at vali. Before Vali could jump out the window, Mahiro vanished using Shunpo, Hyōrinmaru slashing at Vali's back.
Vali's instincts were unreal. He twisted just in time, dodging a lethal hit, but Mahiro was too fast. The blade grazed Vali's shoulder, slicing through his armor and drawing blood. Ice shards mixed with red spattered the floor.
"Damn, almost had you," Mahiro's voice echoed from his armor, cool but annoyed.
Vali clutched his shoulder, grinning despite the pain. "Sneaky bastard. That's why you're worth fighting."
"Mahiro?!" Rias yelled, her hands crackling with Power of Destruction.
"Chill," Mahiro said, lowering his blade. "Just testing his reflexes. Gotta make sure he's sharp out there."
Serafall tilted her head, smirking. "Bold move, Red Dragon Emperor."
Azazel laughed. "Kid's got guts. Vali, you good?"
"Never better," Vali said, his armor already patching up. He smashed through the window, soaring into the sky, light wings blazing as he dove into the magician swarm.
"Alright, let's back him up," Mahiro said, nodding to Rias and the others. The talks were on hold.
