Chapter 85 - V2 Chapter 32

 _ _ _Ootora pov_ _ _

Chaos, carnage, a valiant defense and an endless stream of terrible and monstrous beasts, truly this was a splendid hunting ground. It was a shame that I was unable to participate in such a turbulent event, a true shame indeed.

Still, there were opportunities around every corner, one just had to be patient, and I was most definitely patient. In fact as I crouched there, hidden within one of the concrete towers that made up this human city, I spotted one such opportunity heading my way.

<> Dengwei muttered through the hive link causing me to huff.

<> I muttered, causing him to scoff but I continued. <>

<> He laughed as we watched the large number of human soldiers making their way up through the streets towards our current location.

I had always been a believer in The Black Warrior, also known as Cetanu, the god of death who rules the hunt and takes the heads of those most honorable and worthy of warriors to add to his collection after they meet their end in glorious battle. Killing was in our nature, some more than others, but in the end our kind were hunters, we couldn't resist the call forever even if we wanted to, it was in our very blood and DNA after all.

<> I asked her.

<> She hummed as she stood in another building opposite us.

For a moment she just stared out of a window at the approaching prey before asking. <>

<> I muttered as I stood up. <>

With that I moved, making my way to a nearby broken window I jumped out of it before then digging my wrist blades into the wall next to me as I fell, a fact that helped slow my rapid descent somewhat. I hit the ground with surprisingly little noise, rolling back to my feet sprinting forward. As I ran I took in the rather dishevelled alleyway that I now found myself within, all the while I made sure to stay out of sight as I did.

It didn't take me long to get into position, I had made my way behind a large rectangular vehicle that had been tipped over. The group of armed humans were quickly approaching, I could hear their rather panicked chatter even from here, they were rushing down the main street, trickling between the broken vehicles littering the road right towards me.

I waited for a moment, letting them get closer, I listened to their voices, the sound of their footsteps. I used this information to rapidly map out their positions in my head, planning out how I would engage them when the time came. It was then, once they had gotten close enough, that I sent out the call.

I could not command the wills of all those apart that were the hive like the clan chief could, however I could still request assistance when needed. Almost immediately after sending out the request I got a response through the hive mind, not a response of words, no, a response of animalistic feeling and emotion.

From the east it came, smashing its way through a building and its massive serpentine body slithered forward with predatory intent. Its giant form slowly coiled up like a spring before it looked down at those below it with hungry eyes. Of course the human soldiers immediately noticed the creature and opened fire on it, not that their primitive weaponry did much to the beast in question.

<> I said through the links connecting me with my fellow hunters.

<> Dengwei immediately said before letting out a loud deafening roar of excitement, a fact that caused Enu to sigh.

<>

I myself jumped up, with one leap I easily landed on top of the vehicle I had been hiding behind. Immediately I pulled an explosive mine from my waist and tossed it into a crowd of humans that were standing several meters away from me. Because they were distracted by the appearance of the mutant snake they had no time to react and were ripped apart by an eruption of violent blue plasma, various body parts were sent flying in every direction.

Jumping down I landed with a loud thud, not that it mattered since all of the humans probably knew we were here by this point anyway. Moving on though, I didn't stand still for long, in fact I was quick to get a move on. I rushed forward and pulled out my combistick using it to impale a large and well built human in the gut just as he turned around to face me. The man stood there momentarily stunned, blood slowly staining his clothes as he looked at me with both a mixture of confusion and horror, not that I cared.

With one fluid motion I ripped my weapon out leaving a gaping hole in his stomach and causing him to collapse like a puppet with its strings cut. I then swung my combistick around, twisting my body as I did so, using the sharp point at the end of it I sliced through the neck of another soldier who was standing close by before throwing my weapon like a javelin at another.

The first of the two, grasped at their throat as crimson fluid poured from the wound, they desperately tried to suck in air but found it impossible to breathe with their windpipe cut cleanly in two, they eyes slowly losing focus as their skin went pale and they fell forward crashing against the ground unmoving. The second one was ended just as efficiently, the combistick flew forward and tore right through their chest, breaking through their rib cage and spine with ease before pinning them against the metal frame of a truck.

I was forced to quickly pull back however when a hail of bullets whizzed past me, temporarily drowning out the sound of panicked screams that had begun to fill the surroundings. Turning to the side as I leaped out of the way I was immediately able to notice who exactly it was that had shot at me, two human soldiers, one male the other female, both had fear and panic in their eyes but they still didn't run, something I had to commend.

I activated my cloaking device and sprinted towards them, the fact that I had suddenly turned invisible caused the two to fire more sporadically, something that actually worked in their favour somewhat. One of their bullets had ended up tearing its way through my shoulder, my bioluminescent green blood spilling from the wound. Unfortunately for them, instead of scaring me off the pain only made me move faster, adrenaline pumping through my veins as the urge to kill filled my every thought.

Of course I was still aware of my surroundings, in fact I easily noticed both Dengwei and Enu out of the corner of my eye. Dengwei, the large imposing brute, was literally ripping the humans around him apart with his bare hands while laughing like a maniac, in fact I saw him literally punch one of them so hard that their face was immediately caved in and their brain exploded out the back of their skull. As for Enu, well, she was far more surgical, using her cloak to blink in and out around the battlefield, using her plasma caster and smart disc to strategically pick off targets.

Back to me though, I was continuing to nimbly weave between the incoming bullets as I made my way towards the two, the both of them were clearly becoming more and more desperate as I got closer and closer by the second. Using a nearby car as a springboard to jump up and over them once I was close enough, I turned around and skewered the female through the back with my wrist blades before pulling out her spine along with her head.

As for the male human, well, he screamed in rage as he tried to turn and fire at me, however I quickly grabbed his gun and yanked it from his hands. He attempted to reach for his side arm but I put a stop to that by gripping ahold of his neck and lifting him up with ease. His struggles were abruptly ended when I cut his head off with the back of my wrist blades causing his body to fall lifelessly to the road below him, although I did make sure to keep a firm hold of his head.

I took a second to just breathe after that and admire my two new trophies before glancing around, most of the humans had already met their ends by this point with only a few still alive. Sadly those that were still breathing were attempting to run for it, cowards, the lot of them. Thankfully however, they were quickly picked off by the combined efforts of the behemoth of a snake who swallowed them whole and Dengwei who refused to let them escape.

It took a bit afterwards for things to calm down but after a few minutes there was silence, all the humans were dead and I breathed, the smell of blood filling my senses. I also took a moment to watch the large serpent as it slithered off, what I'd give to hunt such a magnificent creature, unfortunately it belonged to the clan chief so it was off limits for now.

"I was right! That was really god damn fun!" Dengwei yelled as he cut the head of one of the corpses, although his mood was a little soured by the actions of some. "Of course, not all of them deserve a place on my trophy rack, especially those who tried to flee, pathetic." He huffed, probably already planning on skinning said individuals and displaying them as a warning in the streets.

(He may be a muscle head but he is a true hunter at the very least.) I thought, reaching down to collect my own trophies but hissed when the movement caused my wound to flare with pain.

"You alright?" Enu asked, causing me to shrug slightly.

"Yeah, a bit of patching up and I'll be fine." It's not like this was the worst wound that I had gotten in a hunt.

Just as I was about to continue something caught my attention, though Enu was the first to notice. As for the thick headed one of the group, well, he didn't notice until said thing dropped down from above right in front of him.

"And what exactly are you three doing?" Darook asked as he landed, his mask was hiding his expression but I could tell it was the same stern look he always had.

"Brother!" Dengwei shouted in greeting, he was not at all bothered by his brother's sudden appearance. "You're a little late to the party."

Ignoring him Darook glanced around at the carnage. "A good hunt I see." He muttered while nodding with approval. "Good, take your trophies, then get back to work."

"He is always so serious." I said with a small chuckle as I watched him turn to leave.

Enu simply shook her head at that. "That's just how he is."

(That was so fucking annoying...)

I had just gotten done dealing with Davis and Kate, and honestly, I had really wanted to just blow their brains out. Unfortunately however, I had my orders and despite everything I would never disobey my queen.

Sighing I walked down the street while ignoring the mayhem going on all around me. "Time to head back, I wonder if anyone else has finished up yet..." I muttered only to pause when a distance screech filled the air.

(Hummm?) Looking up I noticed something golden shimmering far off in the distance amongst the clouds, it didn't take me all that long to finally realize what it was that I was looking at. (Oh, that overgrown parrot has finally shown up...)

Indeed, there it was, the creature's massive wings flapping as its body shot through the air at speeds nothing that big should probably be able to move at. Despite the approach of such a large creature however, no one could really do much about it, after all, what was left of the military had their hands full with other things right now.

"Oh well, not my problem." I shrugged, not at all bothered by the creature's arrival.

(It's not like adding one more gigantic monster to the party will make things any more chaotic than they are already.)

As if to emphasize that point, a tank smashed its way through a nearby building followed by two pissed off crustaceans, each of which was the size of a school bus. The tank fired at one of them, the shot, being fired at practically point blank range, exploded immediately and obliterated a large section of the creature's head, the pavement shattering as its lifeless corpse hit the ground. Unfortunately for those inside the tank however, a moment later the second one tackled into it and began ripping it apart before they could reload.

"Ashley..." A familiar voice suddenly came from behind me.

"Fucking hell! Red! Don't fucking jump scare me like that you asshole!" I yelled in frustration as I whipped around to look at the ass in question. "Where the hell did you even come from?"

"So, how did it go?" He asked, completely ignoring my question.

Rolling my eyes I let out an annoyed sounding groan of frustration. "Don't even get me fucking started on that shit!"

"Those two morons wanted to stick around even after I gave them the antidote for their overgrown monkey." I hissed as I crossed my arms under my breasts and vented my grievances. "Something about trying to save the city or some stupid fucking shit like that."

"It took them way longer than you would probably expect to realize that even if they turned off the signal all the mutants wouldn't just leave, this city is completely fucked and there is nothing that they could possibly do to stop it. Even if they had the ape on their side to help them out it still won't change anything at all." For his part Red just nodded silently, he was as stoic as ever.

"Honestly, I don't get why my queen wouldn't just let me kill them, it would have been so much simpler." I huffed before smiling. "Oh well, it's not like it's our place to question her great vision, right?"

"Indeed." He hummed in agreement.

"Mind keeping an eye out for me as I make my report?" I mused, already starting to open the link.

He just nodded as I connected my mind to Carmen's. <>

<>

<> I explained.

<> She said, causing me to smile.

<> I muttered, yet the smile on my face didn't fade. <>

<> Carmen muttered sounding a little uncomfortable for some reason, she then coughed awkwardly before moving on to the next subject. <>

<> I asked and she quickly responded a second later.
