Chapter 80 - V2 Chapter 27 Rage

 _ _ _Carmen pov_ _ _

"Open fire! Open fire!"

"Aaaaaaaah!"

"Nothing is working!"

I sat in the back of the Yautja transport ship while watching the footage of the military attempting to stop both Ralph and George. Getting access to this footage was surprisingly simple all things considered, not that this was a shocker to anyone, superior technology and all that.

Anyway, as for what happened to the aircraft George was being transported on, well, the albino gorilla in question had broken out of its cage and brought the plane down in a fiery wreck. Thankfully Davis Okoye, Harvey Russell and Kate Caldwell had all survived the crash just like in the movie.

Right now though the military were trying, and failing, to stop the two mutants from reaching Chicago. Honestly, I was genuinely surprised at how well the two creatures were working together as they tore their way through everything the military had set up to stop them. They had yet to reach the city mind you, in fact they were still hours away, however they were getting closer by the second and would probably reach it by day break.

Despite my fascination with how the two animalistic creatures were working together to cooperatively whoop the collective asses of the American military I still had my worries, more specifically I was worried about Ralph. I had broken his chains of the world some time ago but there was still a chance he could be killed at some point if I did nothing.

And I'm sure you're asking, why don't I just order Ralph to stay away from the city to decrease the chance of him dying? Honestly, it's because I don't think he'd listen to me even if I went ahead and gave him a direct command at this point.

Through the hive mind I was able to feel what he was feeling, to put it simply, he was beyond pissed. I really couldn't blame him though, I had gotten curious as to what the signal sounded like and had possessed his body temporarily, and yeah, I regretted it immediately. It felt like someone was pouring molten metal onto my brain. Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but still, it fucking hurt.

Despite the cure that I had already given Ralph to remove the artificial aggression caused by the pathogen he was still rampaging, which, once again, was understandable given the circumstances. So yeah, I continued watching the carnage unfold, slightly surprised when I saw that George had picked up a tank before using it like a bat to hit a nearby helicopter out of the air.

Anyway, as for where the other two Energyne mutants were...I wasn't sure to be honest. There were reports from the military about a giant parrot but nothing all that concrete about its current location, as for Lizzy, well, they didn't even know she existed at this point.

As for our mutants, they were on the move, thankfully we had made sure all of them could either swim or fly, after all our base had been on an island in the middle of the ocean. The American military didn't know about their existence just yet, however the moment they reach the mainland that would quickly change, in fact they should be reaching the shoreline any moment now.

"They're going to have quite the surprise that's for sure..." I hum to myself.

After taking a second to imagine their reaction I shook my head. "Anyway, for now let's turn my attention elsewhere."

(Seems the hive net is growing smoothly...)

What was the hive net? It was what I had started calling the space within my hive mind where I, and everyone connected to the hidden mind, could store memories. In fact the knowledge and memories I had taken from that one goon hadn't been all that useful, while yes, some of it could be helpful with training soldiers, most of it was useless. Still though, it wasn't the only information that was stored in the hive mind, this was mostly because some of my followers had begun dumping various snippets of experiences into the hive mind.

"Clan chief, should we begin heading to the human city?" Enu said through the Yautja version of an intercom.

Honestly we could have made it there in a couple of minutes considering how fast the ship was, it couldn't move at FTL like the main Yautja spacecraft could mind you, however it could most definitely travel the distance between the earth and the moon in a relatively short time. "Sure, take your time though, after all we aren't exactly in a rush at the moment."

"Understood."

(I guess I should give Connor an update while I'm waiting.)

As Carmen was speaking to Connor something else was happening hundreds of miles away in a bustling military facility. Within what could only be a command hub dozens of people were answering calls, checking monitors, and directing troops to intercept the two rampaging mutants.

In the center of this hive of activity were four key individuals, three of which were probably familiar to you. Davis Okoye, Dr Kate Caldwell and Agent Harvey Russell, the first two had been invited here by Russell after George had crashed the plane they were on. As for the fourth person, well, he was Colonel Blake, a dark skinned man who had been put in command dealing with the mutant threat approaching Chicago.

"You're making a big mistake." Davis muttered as security personnel restrained him along with Kate.

"I don't believe I am." Blake said as he glanced away dismissively. "Now, get them out of here, I'll have someone come to question them soon.

The two had tried to explain that the only way to stop the mutants from reaching the city was to stop the signal but he refused to listen. He had ordered them to be detained until further notice, a fact that Russell clearly didn't agree with, the government agent in question had surprisingly developed some respect for the two over the past couple of hours.

"Sir, i don't thin-"

"You're lucky I'm not having you detained as well for bringing civilians to a restricted military area." The Colonel snapped as he glared Russell down.

He then shook his head before huffing. "You can either be useful or get out of my sight."

"Very well, sir." Russell said with his usual steady smile as he turned to leave only to be stopped when someone called out.

"C-colonel..."

"What now?!" Blake groaned as he turned to the person in question, someone who was currently pointing at one of the large display screens set up nearby.

"You...erm...you might want to see this sir..."

For a moment Colonel Blake just looked at the man confused, he then shifted his attention to where the man was pointing only to freeze in place, he and everyone present who saw what was on the screen immediately paled. The screen was displaying an emergency news report from a coastal town, however what was truly alarming about it were the entity's currently making their way through said town.

"A-as you can see, we are currently under attack by what appears to...to be g-giant mutated animals..." The reporter, a rather beautiful redhead currently looking out of the side door of a news helicopter, spoke while seemingly not believing her own words let alone what she was currently seeing.

"J-just what exactly is going on?" She asked but of course got no answer. "And where is the national guard?"

As the reporter spoke the camera panned over the carnage below, a fact that gave those who were watching a perfect view of the variety of creatures. A nearly sixty five foot tall lobster pulled itself out of the ocean, water pouring off its form and onto the ground beneath it. One of its massive armored legs actually ended up slamming down onto a rather unfortunate van, crushing it and causing the vehicle to explode into a ball of fire, not that said explosion did anything other than slightly scorching the offending leg in question.

Moving on though, the massive lobster was being followed by a small horde of what appeared to be some kind of deep sea crustaceans, except they had some pretty obvious mutations. For one, they were each around the size of a small semi truck, they also appeared to have several squid tentacles growing out of their back that were covered with chitin like armour similar to the pale, jagged and segmented shell covering their body.

Of course there were already mutants in the town, like the gigantic black king cobra that was around two hundred and sixty feet in length. There was also a variety of giant mutated bats and birds as well as three fifty five foot tall poisonous looking salamanders that were currently ripping their way through a building. All the while however, the ground was shaking as a nearly one hundred and twenty foot tall snapping turtle slowly made its way forward.

Despite all of these horrifying and bazaar creatures with a variety of mutations one stood out amongst them all, a creature that seemed more plant than animal. It was a gargantuan rolling hill of what appeared to be a dark red, almost black coloured mass of shifting moss with many bright blood red vines growing from its body, each of which was covered in metallic black thorns. This thing, whatever it truly was, moved like some kind of massive amoeba, engulfing everything in its path without a care in the world.

Around these massive entities could be seen dozens upon dozens of people, all of whom were running for their lives. The creatures didn't really seem all that interested in them however, although that didn't stop them from smacking cars out of the way or smashing through buildings. The only ones that the creatures did go out of their way to attack were those who had fired at them or were currently blocking their path, like the several groups of armed police and swat teams.

"Authorities are attempting to slow the beasts' advance but they're efforts are having little effec-huh?" The reporter tried to say but suddenly stopped.

"What's the matter?" The person holding the camera asked, confused by her sudden pause.

"Do you...do you hear that?" She muttered as a strange buzzing sound filled the air

Both of them glanced around puzzled by the sound, a growing dread clear appearing on the reported face as the sound got louder. It was then they saw something, something off into the distance that made both her and the man behind the camera freeze in horror.

"Oh...oh god..."

"What the hell is that...?"

The two just stood there frozen in disbelief and terror at something those watching couldn't see, they didn't say anything at all, they just stared. Then the camera was pointed upwards, off into the distance we're something was approaching. In the sky above, approaching this town, there was a mass of shifting black that filled the sky like a raging storm.

As the camera zoomed in, it became horrifyingly apparent what it was, it was a swarm of tens of thousands of what appeared to be wasps. It was difficult to make out their individual appearance because there were so many of them, however they seemed to be about a foot and a half in length with a smooth yet somewhat rigid exoskeleton as well as jagged spikes around their joints and segments. Additionally it appeared they had been mixed with dragon fly DNA if the extra pair of wings and strange body shape with anything to go by.

More alarming though was what could be seen hiding within the swarm, a silhouette of something far, far bigger. The Swarm seemed to spiral around the silhouette, almost protectively in a way, a fact that made it impossible to truly get a graft of what exactly it was.

Back in the command hub the room had suddenly become dead silent as everyone watched the screen in both stunned silence and growing panic. They had thought they had only two of these things to deal with, turns out that was not even close to being the case.

It was agent Russell who finally broke the silence. "I don't think we have enough insect repellent for that..."
