Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Clutzy Mage

I wake up in my bed? Usually when I drink it's a table.

"How did I-" My face turns red with embarrassment as I remember last night. I grab my mage hat and pull it over my face. Ugh. I realized I have quite the hangover. So I cast basic healing on my head. Honestly doesn't do much other than numb the pain a little...

Knock knock

"W-who is it!?"

"It's only me Ms Bluefox." I hear the voice of the owner, Clara. Phew. I don't know how I would face to him now... He saw my drunk side... I even made him carry me home.

"W-what do you want?"

"I'm only here to wake you. After all your friend is leaving now."

"He is...?"

"Yes he said he's leaving the grimore on the front desk."

"T-tell him to wait please!" He already read the grimore...? In one night!?

"Sigh. Ok I'll try." I hear foot steps walk away.

I quickly jump out of bed and look in the window looking outside trying to how I look. I fix my hair a little and rush out my door. Holding my hat on my head.

...*

As I opened the door to leave the Red Rose inn. I hear "Hey Ms. Bluefox says she wants to see you out I guess." The owner behind me said.

"Really? I thought-" I respond but then get interrupted.

"Wait for me!" I hear a familiar voice scream.

Then a short mage with fancy robes runned down the stairs. The very same one I carried home of course. As she rushed down the stairs her hat almost fell off then she looked to use wind magic to put it back on her head. Which now I somewhat understood after my intensive studying last night.

She stops in front of me. Panting, and sweating. The stairs did all that...?

"O-ok deep breath, w-where are you heading?"

'how is that any of your business?' I thought in my head but responded, "I'm going to get myself some basic adventuring equipment and weapons." I look to my side and a blue window that read, Quest: become a adventurer. Reward: 4 SP. was floating in the air magically. Speaking of SP I spent the other SP I got from the other quest.

My strength is now at 13. Unlucky but better than before. At least if I get attacked by something with the strength normal person I'll be able to defend myself easily.

Garden looks up at me, smiles and then points a finger at my face. "But you have no idea where any of the shops that sell those things are right?" She says.

"I guess not." I was planning on walking around until I found one. I thought about asking Garden but didn't want to owe her anything.

"Then take me with you! you need a guide don't you?"

But if she is the one who offered... "Sounds good. Let's go."

As we both began to walk out of the inn, the owner said, "Why don't you two eat breakfast before you leave?"

"We're fine-" I began to say but got cut off by a growl that came from in front of me. I look down at Garden who looks like she's about to die from embarrassment.

"Sigh, we'll eat." I said.

...*

After breakfast which was actually pretty good. Beacon and eggs. Wasn't as good as my old world but wasn't bad either, Garden was silent the whole time. We finally left the inn.

"S-so whats the fist thing you want to get." She says as she looks up at me under the brim of her hat.

"How about Adventuring equipment and armor?" I respond.

"I know a place. Follow me!" She starts Marching pointing ahead.

Soon she slows down and starts walking next to me. "Hey, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"Did you really finish that grimore in a night?"

"Yes why?"

She look at me seemingly shocked. "What exactly are you?" She says in a sarcastic tone.

I smile "A quick learner that's all."

"Yeah sure..."

Well I wasn't lying...

...*

"We're here." She says

After 20 minutes of walking we've arrived. The place looked like your classic Weapon shop you see in movies and stuff. With a sign out from that said Blacksmith black iron. With a picture of an anvil and a iron ingot.

We walked inside.

The walls were lined with armor and hung up swords. There was a desk at the end of the room. Behind that desk stood a man who was bald and muscular with green eyes. When he saw Garden he smiled gently.

"Go to see you again Garden. Who's your friend here?" The man said.

"Good to see you too, Youno," she looks over at me "he's Endwin."

"Nice to meet you Edwin." Youno nods at me. Then continues, "what are you here for?"

"We're here so Edwin can get some basic adventuring gear."

"Well you won't find any better than here." Youno Looks at me, gives me a thumbs up and smiles. I swear I could see a small yellow star flash on his teeth...

The man continues, "Well you can have your pick as long as you can afford it."

I nod my head and walk over to where some of the weapons and armor on display. These look good enough quality but everything is heavy looking... Not really what I want.

"I can give you some recommendations if you want!" Garden suddenly says from behind me.

Well she'd probably know better than me. "Sure, why not."

She suddenly walks past me and grabs something that was hanging up.

"How about this?" She turned around and held what was in her hand in-front of my face. After my eyes focused I knew immediately what it was she was trying to make me buy. It was long like a stick, with a thicker part at the end that almost looked like a big gem.

Of course... A wand. She's a mage so that's probably the only gear she can properly appraise.

"This is only 5 gold coins!" She continues.

Five gold coins!? Really? Being a mage must be expensive. Does that mean Garden is wealthy? But even though I can afford it right now doesn't mean I should blow most my money.

"No, I'm fine but thank you though, Garden." I try to give a reassuring smile. Been a while since I did that.

"So you don't want to be a mage? But you read my grimore..." She looked dejected.

"Do you need a wand to use magic?"

"If you're an experienced mage then no but if you're new then it helps a great deal with mana control."

"Is there a cheaper option?" I don't want to put that whole night of studying to waste...

She sighs and turns around, looks around for a little bit and turns back to me. She raises up an another wand but this time it really does look just like a stick with just a small gem at the end.

"This one's 5 silver."

Wow where's all that excited energy wonder off to? And what's with the price gap!? What were you trying to make me buy before...?

I take the wand. "Thank you so much." I put on a smile for her. She smiles back.

I then actually start looking for what I'm going to use on a adventure. I got a basic iron short sword, A sliver chest armor and pads, a belt where I put the wand, and just basic robes which I put under the armor. By the end of it all I only had 6 gold coin worth left.

"Thank you Garden." I said as we walked out of the blacksmith's.

She looks up at me. "It's not a problem, I'm just helping out a newbie."

"Aren't you plenty new yourself?"

"I can show you where the adventures guild is, lets go!" She rushed head. What a way to avoid a question...

We a little while later arrive at the guild. I saw Garden off at the door. There's no reason she needs to come in with me, plus she said she had something she forgot to do.

The inside of the adventures guild had wooden tables set up with severs bringing ale. There's also what looked to be a billiten bord that has what looked to be quests hanging up on it. Isn't this just a tavern but with slightly scarer looking people and a few tasks they pay you to do?

I walk up to what I think to be the front desk. The lady behind it was quite beautiful, blonde hair and Golden eyes. Ok I haven't said this before but why does everyone have weird hair colors?

"Are you here to sign up as a adventurer?" She said.

Guess she realized I'm new. "Yes I am, now how would I do that?"

She pulls out a sheet of paper. It looked like a contract with a 'please sign here at the bottom.' She then gives me a needle and says "Prick yourself with this and smudge your blood after you write your name."

She sounds enthusiastic. I look at the piece of paper. It basically said any traumatic mental trauma, phiscal trauma and death is not their problem. Do they deliver packages or something? I write my name in a space under the words and prick myself my thumb with the needle and smudge it under my name. It glows blue for a moment and then turns back to normal. Magical contract uh? I hand it back to her.

She looks at it then says "Very good, here's your guild card, you start as E rank. It'll advance your rank on its own when you meet the requirements. Don't lose it because it'll be awhile before we give a sh- give a replacement." She says in a bored tone.

Sorry what was that last part? Anyway this was easy. No background checks but I did kinda think they would have a way of gauging my power or something like that but I guess not. I look at my newly acquired gold card. It looks like a business card, it says my name at the top along with my rank just below my name and below that is requirements to rank up. 'Do 5 E rank quests to advance to D rank.' I guess it'll change on its own when I meet the requirements.

"Hey, need anything else." She says.

She phrased it as a question but it was more like a demand... "No I'm fine by now, bye." I walk up to the quest bored and look at the quests I'm able to do. Just some basic 'gather this herb' or 'find my pet.' I guess I have no choice uh? I'll just take the one that pays the most. I take a quest that said E rank: Find the green Lily flower. Reward: 5 copper coins. Sounds easy enough.

I go to the front desk back to that lady. She looks at me with a blank expression and said "Yes?"

"I'll take this quest." I put it down on the desk in front of her.

"Are you sure by yourself?"

It's just a gather quest so... Why would I need more than just me? Well it's not like I have any party to go with and I'm not asking Garden.

"Yes I'm sure."

...*

"Shit shit shit! No one told me it's called a green Lily because goblins like to snack on it!" A dagger flew past my head. What is this doing as a E rank quest? 'Are you sure by yourself?' Oh I bet goblins even in packs are weaker than a party of normal humans. Well I'm one human and only a little stronger than your average adult. I might have made a mistake...
