Chapter 570 - Chapter 569: Betrayal and Complex Relationships

Indeed, the vampires and werewolves from Europe, who had been inciting local vampires and werewolves, had been killed by the Avengers. However, this did not mean that the local, somewhat weaker vampires and werewolves no longer posed a threat. These vampires and werewolves had already committed numerous atrocities, and the Avengers could not let them go unpunished. After all, vampires and werewolves who had killed humans were a huge threat to ordinary people!

It is known that even a tiger in a zoo, after tasting human flesh, must be executed. Having crossed that line, the tiger no longer fears humans, and the first person it kills is unlikely to be the last. The same applies to the werewolves and vampires; originally hiding within human society, they could act low-key due to various pressures from human authorities. However, once they tasted blood, it was difficult for them to revert to their previous lifestyle.

This point had been proven by Luke's werewolves. Once the bloodthirsty nature in their werewolf bloodline was awakened, there was no turning back. Not even Luke was unaffected; his mindset had also changed. Initially, Luke had Joslyn as a concern, making him somewhat averse to slaughtering humans. But once separated from Joslyn, this concern vanished, and Luke gradually grew accustomed to killing humans.

Of course, Joslyn had tried to find Luke. However, upon hearing from the Guardians that Luke had begun massacring humans and seemed to be opposing the Avengers, the Guardians refused to use the portal to find Luke and his men. The Guardians knew about Robert's relationship with the Avengers. If Luke had not attacked humans, the Guardians might have tried to explain his actions. But since Luke had already targeted humans, neither the Avengers nor Robert would spare him. The Guardians even advised Clarice to let Luke fend for himself.

Clarice had no familial bonds with her stepfather Luke, but Joslyn was Clarice's mother. Under Joslyn's pleas, Clarice agreed to help search for Luke. However, it was unclear whether Luke was deliberately avoiding Joslyn or if his movements became more erratic after leaving her. To prevent detection, they kept moving, making it difficult for Clarice to track them down.

As time passed, Luke grew uneasy. The vampires and werewolves who had given them orders had suddenly lost contact. They had no information on the Avengers' whereabouts, as if both the Avengers and those vampire and werewolf leaders had vanished. This situation made Luke increasingly fearful, not for the Avengers' safety but for the possibility that the Avengers had found and eliminated those vampire and werewolf leaders. If Luke's suspicion was correct, then the Avengers' next targets would be them. Given that even the vampire and werewolf leaders couldn't match the Avengers, his weaker pack stood no chance.

"I think we should stop attacking humans for now..." When Luke's unease peaked, he gathered his men and seriously addressed them.

"Leader, what do you mean? Are you going to back out on attacking humans?" His men were dissatisfied, frowning and glaring at Luke.

"Leader, you've already attacked humans. Why change your mind now? Do you sympathize with those weaklings?" No one called Luke "boss" anymore. Even his most loyal follower had changed after following Luke in killing many humans.

"You..." Luke sighed, seeing his men on guard, ready to attack if necessary. He knew his downfall was due not only to their growing ambition and his insufficient strength to suppress them but also to his own indecision and weakness.

If Luke had been firm from the beginning, perhaps some would have followed him. After all, their murderous urges and ambitions didn't exist before. But it was too late to change now. Helplessly, he explained, "We lost contact with the vampire and werewolf leaders. They haven't provided us with information on the Avengers' movements. I suspect they're in trouble..."

"If they are, we're next. We should hide to avoid being found by the Avengers."

"Hide? What's the point?" One of his men sneered, interrupting Luke. "Even without the leaders, who can stop us after killing so many humans? Your fears are just assumptions. Even if the Avengers come, I want to see what they're made of!"

This follower's arrogance was extreme. He had killed only defenseless humans, which made him overconfident, seeing the Avengers as mere pretenders. The idea of hiding after killing humans frustrated and angered him.

"Swish!" In the next moment, he extended his claws, glaring at Luke. "Leader, you're old. An old wolf can't lead us anymore. It's time for you to die!"

As he finished, his followers' eyes lit up. Tired of hiding and eager for unrestrained slaughter, they brandished their claws against Luke.

"You..." Seeing his loyal men turning on him, Luke was stunned, unsure what to do. If not for them, he could have avoided all this, quietly waiting for the Avengers. But trying to find a way out for them, hoping his lineage could continue, led him to this end.

"Stop!" At that moment, an angry voice rang out, and Joslyn and Clarice appeared at the far end. "Well, well, if it isn't the leader's wife. Leader, do you oppose attacking humans because of her? Maybe we can help with that burden..." One follower sneered.

"Shhh!" Before he could finish, his head was severed, blood spraying and soaking the fur of the surrounding werewolves. Their eyes narrowed, wary of the silent, deadly attack.

"Damn it! Who did that?!" The werewolves, weak and unfamiliar with supernatural abilities, couldn't pinpoint the killer. They eyed Joslyn and Clarice warily but couldn't be sure.

"You misunderstood. You are the burdens! Without you, he would have lived peacefully with me!" Joslyn ignored them, taking Luke's hand. "Joslyn, you shouldn't have come..." Luke sighed, not wanting to involve her.

"But I did. I won't abandon you," Joslyn said firmly, looking into his eyes.

"Die!" Unable to bear the sight of their affection, the werewolves split into groups, one attacking Luke and Joslyn, the other heading for Clarice.

"Poof! Poof! Poof!" In an instant, three werewolf heads flew off, the blood scaring the others into stopping. They still couldn't see the attacker, realizing they could be next.

They eyed Joslyn and Clarice warily, retreating slowly. With their betrayal exposed, they no longer cared about Luke.

"Someone else is fighting the werewolves?" A new voice echoed as a green-skinned figure descended, surprising the werewolves. The Martian Hunter glanced around, puzzled by the sides involved.

"Who are you?" The werewolves, wary of the Martian Hunter, Joslyn, and Clarice, threatened, "We're not to be trifled with. Our leaders will avenge us if you don't move aside..."

"Your leaders are dead. I'm the Martian Hunter, an Avenger," he replied, shaking his head with a smile. "Your scent of blood and guilt is strong. It's your turn to die."

"Poof! Poof! Buzz!" As he finished, a mental force killed the werewolves instantly, their heads bursting like watermelons, but one force was blocked — aimed at Luke. The Martian Hunter didn't know the factions but sensed blood and guilt on Luke, making him a target.

However, Clarice blocked him, to his surprise. "What do you mean by this?" he asked, frowning.

The Avengers, upon leaving the mirror dimension, found many vampire and werewolf atrocities. They split up to deal with them, fearing more deaths if delayed. Seeing Clarice's interference, the Martian Hunter, annoyed at the potential delay and increased threat to humans, glared at her, ready to act if she hadn't just killed werewolves herself...
