Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Wastrel

Amos at the moment had an intense urge to strangle the angel in his head, but he knew he couldn't be entirely mad at them either. He knew what he signed up for the moment he first died and established a contract with the divine.

Either he defeats Feng Lin, the seemingly unkillable parasite that'll one day consume this world in order to ascend, or he dies trying.

Standing up from his bed, he looked around until he found a mirror. A thin, pale boy no older than 16 stared back at him. His short black hair matched his sharp black eyes, he wore a typical white robe embroidered with a small gold dragon consuming a red moon, the symbol of the Tang Clan.

It'll never stop getting disorienting seeing his young self again. Looking at his current body's cultivation, it was no wonder why he was so pale and frail. It's still a mystery just how he managed to survive so long when he first reincarnated into this world.

He'll have to break through to the foundation establishment stage today and then immediately start preparing to once again secure the gateway to an old friend's inheritance two years from now. It'll be a while before he's at his peak again, but weakness is all but temporary for a former immortal, well, half immortal.

It'll be especially funny if he gets to see Feng Lin's face if he reaches Nascent Soul before he does this time.

Suddenly, a knock on the door broke Amos out of his scheming and daydreaming. Clicking his tongue, he began to walk to the door to see a tall man with white hair and green eyes stare back down at him. Amos looked at him, trying to discern who he was.

"Young master, I brought your pills and alchemical reagents once again." The man said with a frown, "Your mother has been incessantly reprimanding me for not persuading you to consume them. Could you at least take one of them this time?"

Ah, this guy. My former subordinate turned caretaker whenever Mother and Father were gone.

"Are you my servant or my mother's? I thought every person in this household knows my wishes are first priority." I said to him.

"Young master, not again…" The man said, struggling to not sigh.

"Ah, alright, alright, I'm a gracious master, so I'll indulge you just this once. Quickly hand them over before I change my mind."

The man looked slightly shocked before he unceremoniously tossed the pills over. This body's previous owner really was too much of a wastrel. I've lived far too long across my four rebirths, and this mortal body of mine can't digest all the memories fast enough, even if I can't forget them. Now that I think about it, did I even ask for this guy's name in my rebirths? I can't remember it no matter how hard I try.

"Huh, I really thought you would make up some excuse or threaten to send me away to fight for the upcoming demon hunting excursions." The man said while beginning to walk inside my room, "Alright, let's get this over with."

Immediately, I interrupted him, "Stop, why are you coming into my room?"

The man stared at me with a confused look. "I'm supposed to watch over you. Your mother would kill me if you suffered from Qi deviation while cultivating."

Ah, that's right. My caretaker was always supposed to help guide me in case I messed up. Now that I think about it, this isn't good. My control over my qi flow far surpasses whatever rudimentary skill I had in the past. However, why don't I remember having to deal with this problem in the third or fourth rebirth?

"Ah, alright, whatever, come in. Also, what's your name?" I said to him.

The man looked at me with a sad expression before saying, "Young master… Am I really that insignificant to you? Haven't I been working here for the past decade? I won't repeat myself after this. My name is Lu Kun."
