Chapter 1: Osmosis
I woke up to silence so loud I thought I'd gone deaf.
Or blind.
Or dead.
I couldn't move my arms. Or my legs. My head lolled forward, like it had been too heavy to carry. Which wouldn't be the first time. I'd always suspected it was overfilled with leftover thoughts no one else wanted.
Sticky sweat lined my back. My ass was sore. Chair. I was in a chair. The kind with arms and leather that tries to convince you it's comfortable but it's not. My wrists were bound. Rope. Thick, scratchy, amateur knots. Too tight to be accidental. Too messy to be professional. Like someone had watched a tutorial on how to tie up a guy and gave up halfway through.
I blinked.
Nothing.
Everything was pitch black.
