The King of Bernel Kingdom always gets away whenever he uses his abilities to someone and control them over just to royally f*ck them up and make them beg for mercy. He wanted to get whatever he want, even if the owner themselves will not hand it over and that is the reality of the facade that the King of Bernel Kingdom and since he always gets away from these acts, he was never caught and that image he made remains even if he does countless of problems itself.
However, it seems that things are not doing him any favors. He tried to do it to Elaina to make her obey his whims and get her to follow his reasoning. He even made sure to give Elaina the strongest surge of power to ensure that she gets controlled...only for Elaina to completely ignore it.
