Sub-light speed travel, that is, close to 100% of the speed of light combined with curvature compression, still takes several days to reach nearby star systems. Using the Third Rhythm, which moves two thousand kilometers per second, it might take years—or even decades—to reach the closest star system. By then, everyone would already be dead, so this method is clearly not feasible. This is why Sky Shadow asked Feng Yi about the maximum range of the Third Rhythm, deciding to use it as a basis for estimating distance.
