"So," Perry Reed paused briefly, raising his eyebrows slightly and curling his lips into a faint smile, "am I a special case?"

Joshua Bailey's eyelid twitched as he denied it again.
"Then," Perry Reed's expression grew even colder, "am I disturbing you?"

Joshua Bailey answered against his will.
