Hand raised, knife fell.

The sound echoed by Lucas's ear.
Originally somewhat relieved by the departure of the military knife, as his attention turned to his precious belonging, Lucas was startled upon hearing the sound of the knife piercing the tree trunk beside him.
In that instant, his heart shattered completely.
Frozen in place, Lucas shifted his eyes slightly, looking to the side.
In the dim light, he could vaguely see his precious pet's final struggle, just one moment, and it was gone, stiff and unable to move again.
"It's not poisonous."
After a while, Lucas stared at Flossie Wright with great grievance, speaking word by word.
His little darling...

Flossie Wright retracted the military knife, allowing the lizard to fall down.
Lucas didn't catch it, he just glanced over.
"Whose fault is it?"
With a cold eye on him, Flossie Wright asked word by word.
There was a slight choke, Lucas paused and very honestly opened his mouth, "Mine."
