Who has no grievances?

Even sages may harbor resentment, otherwise Confucius wouldn't have said, "Repay enmity with virtue, how then to repay virtue?" In Mencius's time, not only did he inherit Confucius's words, he also displayed Confucius's fiery temper; with a disagreement, he would unmask your duplicity and even roll up his sleeves to pummel you.

Confucius and Mencius became amiable due to the manipulations of future generations.

Manipulation hopes you adopt Confucius and Mencius's forgiveness, but not their temper.

But how can this be possible?

If even sages cannot restrain their temper, how can ordinary people do so?

Sages have grievances, naturally Zhao Ji has grievances too.

But Zhao Ji's words of discontent left the princes and princesses bewildered, secretly wondering if the Emperor had gone mad? Why speak such nonsense?

The Emperor has always lived in luxury; when has he experienced anything perilous?
