Chapter 25 - Change(2)

Isla sensed danger, her hands began to shake, and chills started spreading all across her back.

No matter how much Isla tried to convince herself to cover her fear beneath her self-fabricated lies to feel safe, her body spilled the truth, letting her true emotions out at the first encounter.

"We need reinforcement,"

Isla thought with a grim look on her face, all the anticipation of entertainment gone, replaced with a dangerous probability that can spell everyone's doom.

The ominous dark green waves of destructive energy that typically envelop the seed of evolution, reducing everything in their vicinity to mere ashes, have now started to encircle Kevin's form.

Ordinarily, this would not pose a significant issue, as every test subject ultimately disintegrated upon the manifestation of these destructive waves on their body; however, this situation is different.

It is a phenomenon in which Kevin's body does not disintegrate; rather, it flourishes within it, a reality that genuinely frightens her.

Looking at those destructive radiations that have once almost taken her life, Isla cannot help but let out a defeated sigh.

'Sigh.'

"It looks like I have no other choice."

Without a second thought, Isla reached into her lab coat pocket, pulling out a device that seemed both familiar and alien.

It resembled a smartphone in form, yet its design was bulkier, its features more highly developed—an instrument of a technology not meant for ordinary hands. This device appears to be very similar to the one used by Mask Man but an advanced version of it.

The device rang for just a few seconds before a voice entered her ears from the other side.

"speak"

Only one word sounded, without any shred of humility, but it was enough.

"I am ashamed to speak of this, but we have no other choice but to disturb his highness. I hope—" Before Isla could speak anything else, the voice from the other side cut her off.

"Keep these useless formalities for later, Isla, and speak of what's truly important." The voice sounded irritated.

Isla removed every pretense, as if expecting this reaction, and spoke in a neutral tone.

"We need help, Your Highness. The seed of true evolution was about to reach its threshold value, but before that, I think our last subject had begun to evolve out of our scope of expertise."

"We are no longer capable of keeping it under our control, and above all, our biggest problem is that it is still evolving with each passing moment."

No reply came for a few seconds, but Isla did not get anxious. It's not that she has trust in her superiors. Hell no.

Instead She had complete trust in her own value. She knew that her superiors would not put a resourceful asset like her in danger, and true to her belief, a reply came.

"I will reach there as soon as possible; till then, stay alive," the voice said emotionlessly, no assurance, no tension, just a direct order, as if it is not a big deal, but Isla knows how hard it is to follow it.

Tension filled the air as researchers faced a crisis; their workstations had succumbed to a barrage of errors, rendering them useless.

Every nanobot within Kevin's body, crafted from a material far superior to any robot, had ceased to function.

Like an unknown power has trapped them inside Kevin's body, cutting their connection from the outside world.

The researchers were baffled, unable to comprehend the turmoil within Kevin, yet Isla stood by, witnessing the unfolding chaos firsthand.

Kevin's body has begun to mutate; every single crack all over her body has begun to widen; the dark lightning inside these cracks is no longer destroying, but instead it has begun to regrow his muscles outside the scope of what human genetics are capable of.

Dark, obsidian scales emerged, replacing his once smooth skin, while bony spikes erupted from his skull, and a stream of dark crimson fluid poured from the hollow sockets where his eyes once resided, rendering him a grotesque monstrosity.

Yet, the metamorphosis did not cease; it escalated further. Numerous small, writhing tentacles, formed from his engorged veins, began to sprout from the gaping fissures across his body.

Their lengths rapidly extended, and within moments, these squirming appendages reached the sterile floor of the white experiment room.

Gone were the remnants that might have linked this mindless horror to the essence of the man Kevin had once been.

Every vestige of his humanity had undergone a grotesque transformation, reshaping not only his genetic makeup but also his outward form.

What stood before the world now was a creature of nightmares, a formidable predator belonging to a mysterious lineage, devoid of any trace of the man he used to be.

Suddenly a pulse of destructive dark green radiation exploded from Kevin; it kept spreading, destroying everything it came in contact with.

Everything disintegrated: the mechanical hand, all the highly advanced destructive weapons, the medical bed on which Kevin was lying, and even the white experiment room began to show signs of cracks forming all around for the first time since its creation.

His body has begun to exude a presence even greater than Isla, a fourth-level evolved human.

Every single being present inside the building can feel it, like a prey who instinctively knows that its predator is about to awake.

Just when everyone thought that this abomination would awaken, the whole situation took a drastic turn of events.

Kevin's appearance began to change once more, but this time it moved not toward an inhumane structure; instead, every mutation that had happened till now began to restore.

Dark black scales stopped growing even those already grown began to liquify and submerge back inside his body, replacing them with newly formed human skin. Spikes made of bones followed the same, dark black blood stopped from his eye sockets.

Each tentacle moved backward, recombining inside Kevin's body.

Looking at Kevin lying on the floor inside the white experiment room.

None of the researchers watching this can believe their eyes. Everyone has similar thoughts inside their mind.

"Holy S#it"

"Is this even possible?"

"How can a mutated human recover?"

Only one person was thinking a little differently from others, just a little.

"I heve to know the reason behind this change at any cost," Isla thought.

Isla knows that the moment whatever is happening with Kevin stops. Hell will let loose on them because every security measure inside the white room has already become useless after coming in contact with the destructive energy radiating from Kevin.

But her passion as a researcher has bound her feet from running away, constantly pressing her mind to keep watching, to keep observing, and to analyze this new change happening in front of her.

Because she can imagine that if she manages to solve this problem behind this mutation, then that person will definitely reward her with more power and authority because this challenge of dangerous mutation is the only obstacle standing in front of his goal.

Her obsession bore fruit in just a few moments, but it stirred not only her but everyone in the world.

Inside Kevin:

The seed of true evolution keeps pulsating with destructive dark green lightning deep inside Kevin Heart.

Spreading its power all around his body through it. Forcefully evolving his physical aspects by consuming his innate genetic potential, like it does with every other biological being to evolve it.

Slowly, with each passing second, Kevin's innate genetic potential became empty with nothing more to consume from it, and then it began.

Mutation

For several minutes, this inhumane mutation continued destroying Kevin's genes and then altering them without any order, like breaking a completely well-made building and then destroying it, only to recreate it with no sense of symmetry or physical limitations.

In simple words: a mess.

Just as the seed was about to reach the stage of completely mutating Kevin.

A change occurred.

Unknown to everyone, a subtle golden light shone above Kevin's body; it pierced through the destructive radiation and dark green lightning surrounding Kevin like a knife cutting through a piece of paper.

This golden light affected Kevin's body and mind but left his soul, which had become a being made of dark green lightning, unaffected.

The moment this golden light entered Kevin's body and mind, a drastic change took place.

The seed of true evolution stilled; it became unresponsive for a moment, like a kite broken from its string, before cracks began to spread on the seed itself.

With each crack, the amount of energy radiating from it increased. The cracks kept spreading on the seed till it reached a point where it felt like it was about to explode, but nothing like it happened.

The cracked seed of true evolution did not explode; instead something unexpected happened, something that would have made Isla pluck her own hairs in irritation.

The true seed of evolution, the very foundation of every powerhouse in this world—disintegrated.

The seed disintegrated like a castle of dust falling into Kevin's bloodstream, or what's left of them.

And then something changed.

Something that affected not only kevin but the whole world drastically.
