People these days celebrate New Year's Day with much more grandeur than before, but for the Herd Family, it was pretty much the same, only tonight's food was abundant.
At the dining table, Mrs. Herd said, "This is the happiest New Year's Eve I've had in thirty years since I joined the Herd Family."
Scarlett Glenn felt a sudden pang of emotion, and Ethan Herd joked, "Mum, don't say that, next year when your grandson is born, you'll definitely be happier than this year."
Mrs. Herd's eyes squinted into a slit as she laughed, "Right, right, I'll definitely be happier next year..."
Scarlett Glenn looked at them and said, "This is also the happiest New Year's Eve I've had since I was 8 years old. There might be happier ones in the future, but this year is the most special."
It seemed like she had harvested all the happiness of the year—Family!
Sometimes Scarlett Glenn was truly afraid; this overwhelming happiness felt unreal.
