After telling a few stories to the two children, Keira Leaf stood up and went back to her room.
The lights in the living room were still on, and the same advertisement was repeatedly playing on TV, with Alexandra Lee's face tirelessly appearing on the screen, her smile radiant and compelling.
A lonely red wine glass sat on the tea table, but the person on the sofa was no longer there.
Joshua Sulliven came out of the bedroom and said softly to Keira Leaf, "Have they gone to sleep?"
"Yes, they are all asleep."
Joshua Sulliven's gaze also turned to the deserted sofa, and he frowned, "I'll have the housekeepers install a few more locks later, to keep some unsightly people from treating this place like their own home."
Keira Leaf walked up with a light laugh and poked his face: "You're so grown-up, yet you act like a child."
Joshua Sulliven held her small hand and said, "They are naturally hateful, and yet you feel sorry for them."
