Chapter 57 - 33:

.

A looked at his opponent, Senju Kiyotaka, and prepared for another tough battle. His muscles tensed as he used what little chakra he had to strengthen them.

His mind flashed with memories of all the difficulties he had faced to reach here. Honestly, he thought the test was bullshit. It was too tough for normal Genins to pass.

He, who could fight any Jonin in his village, was struggling. One could only wonder what normal Genins were going through.

He had already expressed his unwillingness to Oyaji, but he dismissed him, saying the test wasn't really tough if one had the basic capabilities of an experienced Chunin.

According to his Oyaji, if a Chunin couldn't even gather information and assess his situation correctly, then he was a dead man.

And honestly, A couldn't deny his words. It was true if he had taken those clues and gathered information properly, he would have breezed through the first round easily. Same with the second round. If he had assessed his team's situation properly, he wouldn't have rushed at every team head-on and probably played it smart like some other teams.

Although it gnawed at his nerves to think like that he has no choice but think so. He can't rush straight at everything like a bull. He's not invincible and he realised that in his fight with that guy.

It has been a year since he "lost" to Kazuya of Akihara. Since then, he has trained like never before so much so that if it wasn't for this Chunin exam, he would have been promoted to a Chunin, maybe even a Jonin.

"Begin!" The referee's voice broke him out of his thoughts. He immediately sprinted towards the tree hugger. His chakra-fueled muscles made him invisible to normal eyes, but Senju reacted easily. He intercepted his attacks calmly and punched towards his face.

A dodged calmly and redirected a low kick towards the Senju's knee. The kick landed, making the Senju buckle. A quickly followed with a hook to his jaw. The punch landed with a crack, but before he could celebrate, the Senju's body burst into smoke and a log replaced him.

A quickly turned to face Senju, just in time to see him complete a set of hand signs.

"Water Style Jutsu: Gunshot!!!" Three fast, condensed water blasts were released from Senju's mouth, headed straight towards him.

A gritted his teeth as he pumped lightning chakra into his body. His reaction time completely shifted as the fast incoming blasts slowed down considerably. He opted to roll away from the blasts and immediately burst towards his opponent. His speed and reaction caught the Senju off guard as his punch landed on his jaw. The eight-year-old's face crunched in pain in his perception before he crashed into the wall, completely knocked out.

"Haah! Haah! Haaahh!" A huffed, taking in as much air as possible in every bursts to recover from the sudden exertion.

His chakra plummeted to a new low as he started feeling light-headed. It became so severe he didn't even notice when the referee announced him winner and the final round started.

Only when the face of his opponent came into his view did he break out of his daze. Before him, at ten hands' distance, stood his next opponent — the one person he was so eager to fight.

"Kazuya Akihara…." he muttered, but that's all he could do. His body was too spent to move, and just as he prepared to get knocked down by his opponent and lose for the second time, his opponent quit.

Yes, that's right. Kazuya, with a calm face, forfeited the fight. For a second, A stood dumbfounded before he mustered whatever strength he could and shouted:

"What the fuck?! Why did you quit?!!!" But his shout fell on empty ears as his opponent walked out, ignoring him.

A thought of running after the bastard and asking him why the fuck he quit, but he couldn't because, for the millionth time, his body was too damn tired.

So he opted for the second option, which was to stare murderously at Kazuya's back as the referee announced him winner.

After the winner was decided, the village chief of this village: a woman with Kage-level chakra announced those who passed the Genin test and became Chunin.

A did not remember how many passed, nor did he care — he only remembered becoming Chunin and getting a special reward for acing the tournament.

Everything was a blur for him until the village chief announced his special reward and its effect, hearing which his drowsiness went away instantly.

A, despite not knowing much about politics, understood what he was holding in his arms. Something people would wage war to get. He knew one serum itself wasn't valuable enough, but the idea of researching it and uncovering its secrets was too valuable.

A also understood that if he took this serum with him, many people would want it for themselves, so he decided to use it. It would kill multiple birds, he would know the authenticity of the serum and remove any greedy thoughts from the masses.

So without letting anyone react, he chugged the serum with whatever strength he could muster. Immediately, a sweet taste filled his mouth before he started feeling the temperature of his body rise so much so that he felt lava running through his veins. But just as quickly as it came, it also went away.

Immediately, he fell to the ground and his consciousness blanked but before it completely faded, he felt a tenth of his chakra recover
