It was very helpful having Joan there since she was able to use her flames as a method of tracking down the corruption energy.
The divine energy flame breath was the natural enemy of the corruption energy, so it surged forward in the direction of the corruption energy. Even though she used this out in the open, it still led them in the right direction.
The flame breaths filled with holy energy just didn't have the same effect.
The holy energy just wasn't strong enough to chase after the corruption energy after all.
At the same time, the gnomes also started learning more and more about the corruption energy from the strange creatures that were captured.
